Styling blue velvet dress

Thecatisboss · 28/10/2023 09:21

I'm going out to a nice restaurant soon and planning on wearing a blue velvet dress I've had in wardrobe but never worn. However not sure what to wear with it. Prefer boots to shoes and totally unsure about tights as well!

Wondered if anyone had any ideas please?

Gold!
That dress needs gold, make it pop.
Think a gold clutch, with gold strappy shoes.
It looks stunning already but it needs something light and bright.

Ha I thought silver

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 28/10/2023 09:38

You could try either gold or silver to make it pop.

Daveismyhero · 28/10/2023 09:40

Definitely gold or if you want to be brave a contrasting jewel colour like pink would look lovely

Thank you for the replies! I tend to wear silver - all the jewellery I have is silver!

I really struggle to wear high heels which is why I always wear boots for work etc.

Those silver boots are interesting too.

I’ve got similar boots from Oliver Bonas, they’re comfy.

Thecatisboss · 28/10/2023 09:49

Though the boots are not available in a size 6 unfortunately.

If it is silver boots what colour tights? Sorry really clueless about this sort of thing!

This meal is a bit of a celebration really as I turn 50 soon - but it isn't a birthday party or anything.

What a great dress (I’m jealous of your figure too!)

You can style it in a zillion different ways and all would look good. Either silver or gold is good but don’t mix them.

The important thing, as it’s so simple, is to have one unusual shiny/sparkly thing to make it ‘pop’. For example you could wear long dangly earrings, or a huge bracelet (I’m thinking a wide band of complicated silver filigree, for example), or an unusual wrap / clutch bag.

For feet I’d do either brown boots if you’re feeling informal, or strappy sandles in silver, - or any colour works with that dress, to be honest.

At Next they have the boots in a 6.

Thank you all (especially @Youneedkittens for the compliment about my figure! I used to weigh a lot more and lost weight after a health checkup and told I'd get diabetes unless I did something!)

@Talisin they are lovely too

Most of those boots have pointed toes so would be uncomfortable unless you have narrow feet.

These look more comfortable

They won't link but they're the Dover dune ones

Thecatisboss · 28/10/2023 15:52

Thanks @GettingStuffed I definitely wouldn't say my feet are narrow more on the wide side!

A bit expensive but they look comfy and gorgeous.
