What denier tights with short dress and boots?

I'm going out into Manchester tomorrow night'
I'm planning to wear this dress and boots but I don't know what tights to wear. I like my legs but they are very pale so feel I need something, particularly as its Autumn.

Nude tights?
Sheer black?
Opaque?

I'm generally hopeless at this stuff anyway and feeling even more nervous as I haven't had a proper night out in years. It's always an afternoon or somewhere more local in an evening.

Any thoughts?

200 denier. With a patterned dress you need plain tights and definitely black with that. Nothing worse than sheer or tan tights. I do however like a sheer polka dot tight with a plain skirt etc. look great!

I wear 40 or 60 denier black opaque tights from M&S.

I'd go for 80+ opaque tights.

Weather driven! Sheer if you are going straight from car to venue. Say, 40 or 60 max if you need a little more warmth. I would avoid anything thicker though. It would look like leggings with feet in them.

Depends on how thick you want them.

40 or 60 denier are adequate, I prefer 80 denier as they are warmer.

Nude sheer tights are worn by Kate Middleton.

If you have time and money, buy some from primark ... they are relative cheap and try different styles.

Not opaque. Recently had this dilemma was told Sheer black tights as oobedobe said.

Thanks everyone. I did like a pp suggested and bought a few from Primary. Tried them on and ended up wearing 30 denier. I'm rarely cold so didn't need thicker and thought they looked best

Will keep the 80 for daytime/work

Black sheer matte 10-15 if with dressy shoes/ boots. For flat more casual ones then I like M&S opaques with cotton (cotton feel or something like that). The finish is really nice and non-shiny

Ooh I love American Tan tights! I don't care if they're 'out'. They make my terrible legs look decent, a price beyond rubies.

Fellow tan tights fans, be aware that M&S have renamed all their shades and you now need 'rich amber' but don't worry, it's good old Suntan.
