H has booked a two night stay and I have nothing suitable, what would you suggest?

Smart Jeans with nice sweaters (cashmere if you've got it) and boots for during the days.

Smart evening outfit, but not too dressy. Black evening trousers and sparkly top, a little black dress kind of thing.

Hotels these days are not that intimidating, so just wear smartish clothes that you feel comfortable in!

MeImAllSmiles · 09/03/2008 14:55

Can I wear black linen trousers this time of year?

soapbox · 09/03/2008 14:58

Not if they have a draw sting waist otherwise I think they'd be fine

Mrspanic · 09/03/2008 14:59

Ooh you lucky thing !

sOAPBOX IS RIGHT; IT ISN'T INTIMIDATING; BUT I DO ADVISE - sorry - wearing something with a forgiving waist if you plan to eat 3 courses in the evening

MeImAllSmiles · 09/03/2008 15:03

No drawstrings here! Ok, so I am possibly sorted for one evening, more inspiration please. Mrspanic, you have been there?

ooh, went to lunch once, very posh! what a nice treat from your dh

Mrspanic · 09/03/2008 15:26

Yes. Have stayed in the Pavilion en famille (and in main building years ago when we had 1 or 2 dcs rather than 4)...Have also been for lunch recently. You will love it I'm sure.

Clothes wise...well some people go to town re dressing up for dinner, but by no means all. Dh and I probably in the latter camp. Do you have any Jigsaw/Hobbs type skirts ? Or some smart trousers (jeans borderline imo but it's your call) to wear with a tunic type top ? Or you can't go wrong with a lbd.

MeImAllSmiles · 09/03/2008 15:35

I hate shopping, but other than black trews don't have anything suitable.

Could you wear the trousers twice; just change the top. Nobody will notice. I hate clothes shopping too; there's just too much choice and i end up coming home empty handed.

MeImAllSmiles · 09/03/2008 16:23

Thank you, couple of tops it is then.

Someone has started a "Gleneagles capsule wardrobe" thread just above. Some good ideas there ! I don't know what your favourite shops are, but for GP you will obviously need something for the evenings as well as something for outdoors. Even if you don't do much, their boundary walk is lovely and will sharpen the appetite for dinner. That's a trousers + walking boots or wellies occasion for sure.

In your shoes for the evening I'd buy some well cut but not too tight trousers and a couple of funky or classic but smartish tops OR a dress + skirt and 1 top. Or do you have a well cut jacket already that you could pair with a simpler top ?

MeImAllSmiles · 11/03/2008 18:39

Aarrghh, I have jeans x 2, 1 black jacket, 1 black linen trews (not drawstring)!. Think a bit of a prob is my midriff, it's a bit, how shall I say, mmmmm ok large! Any ideas on controlling it, might do a new thread for that.

Some loose silky palazzo style trousers with the black jacket ? Comfy but smart.

MeImAllSmiles · 19/03/2008 13:55

Fantastic hotel, incredible food and service, I want to go again!!!

Mrspanic · 22/03/2008 09:00

Glad you liked it...the service is amazing...just as you are wondering whether to order pudding/perhaps have a hot chocolate after a long walk/have a glassof wine, someone seems to come along and anticipate your need.

MeImAllSmiles · 25/03/2008 18:46

Got a couple of smartish tops and wore with the linen trews, worked well. Thank you all for advice.
