Can you have dark hair highlighted?

I have very dark brown hair which is greying and I'm thinking about blending with highlights. Would I be able to have blonde highlights on dark hair in one go?
Also has anyone had highlights in dark to blend grey and was it successful?

I’m brunette mid brown though, not dark brown.
I have highlights. A mix of blond and light brown (sometimes every 3 goes or so, I do slightly darker brown as it can end up being blond blocky).
Honestly, it did used to hide the few greys but now I’m going more grey, it is less effective.
That said, it certainly helps to have colour variation and my hairdresser does a fab job at getting quite thin, delicate streaks rather than solid blocks of colour.
So basically, it’s helped to hide greys but I think it is less effective now I’ve got more greys! Though I haven’t got the maintenance patience to go full colour dye to cover greys.
