Wow dress for someone that only wears trousers

I live in jeans, joggers & trousers. I hate shopping especially online shopping so this is me being extremely lazy asking for links & recommendations!! I spent about 10 minutes looking which was painful.

It's for an awards dinner but it's not a formal event so no need for cocktail or black tie. I want to feel comfortable but want the dress to make a little bit of a statement.

High or highish neckline, mid to long sleeves.
Not too clingy or tight especially around the stomach area.
Colours - not black, grey or navy as this is what my usual wardrobe is made up of.
Not a jumpsuit.

edit to say I'm a 12, 5"5

(Essentially suggesting websites, rather than specific frocks!)

I like Joe Browns, Monsoon and Scamp & Dude for long dresses in nice colours/prints in your price range.

pizzaHeart · 22/10/2023 15:39

what length? What about V-neck?

Seaside3 · 22/10/2023 15:40

If you're not going to wear it again, why not ask a friend if you can borrow? I don't really see the point in buying a dress that's going to hang unworn. Bet you've got someone in tour life that can help you out.

Failing that, there were some nice ones shared recently from zara. I'm a fan of h and m (totally different shape and size to you), and I've seen some nice things on Rixo.

Maybe try vinted?

Monsoon or Lady Vintage are two of my go-to places for dresses when I have events to go to. I also like Ted Baker dresses which you can sometimes find in their sales or on eBay/Vinted if you're lucky!

I don't mind any length as long as my arse isn't hanging out! Around the time of the event I will have a bandage/plaster just above one breast. It may show under the scamp & dude dress linked above so that neckline won't work.

I have other events over the next year or so so will be wearing the dress more than once.

coast has a sale just now-worth check out maybe

sunnyseed · 22/10/2023 19:56

Most people wouldn’t be able to afford to spend this much on a dress.

Supportyourlocal · 22/10/2023 20:19

I buy most of my dresses from Sorelle, Fifty1 and Pretty little thing so maybe try these.

WhatWillIWear · 22/10/2023 20:36

You may have missed these two sentences from the OP’s first post, @Supportyourlocal? And perhaps her follow-up post.

High or highish neckline, mid to long sleeves.
Not too clingy or tight especially around the stomach area.

WhatWillIWear · 22/10/2023 20:52

Would this be too ‘clingy’? You could get the size that leaves a little room around the waist.

This is - IMVHO - one of the best dresses around in this price bracket at the moment. Not available in a 12 on the website any more - but I know other places stock & Other Stories.
