What shoes with cigarette trousers in winter?

I've recently moved to a non-clinical role after a decade of wearing hospital scrubs (so easy and comfortable 😭) and have bought a few pairs of cigarette style trousers. Fine in warm weather - I wore them with loafers. But what do people do when it's cold? I'm usually an ankle boots girl in winter but the trousers are also ankle length and it doesn't look right. Trainers are fine in terms of the dress code but look too casual paired with the smart trousers 🤔 Are brogues really my only option if I want warm feet?

I'd go for really smart trainer box fresh trainers.

I I'm a hospital director, a discreet style will look fine.

A surgeon colleague who always looks pristine recently had foot surgery. She was telling me how she was struggling post surgery to find footwear that facilitated her recovery without compromising her put together appearance when in her management role. Until that point, I hadn't noticed her footwear had changed to trainers - no heels. The trainer styles and colours blended lovely. There are so many options now you should be fine.

I'd go for solid subtle colours like white/cream - not mixes of colours or bright logos. You could even keep your light coloured trainers in work so they don't get dirty/wet on way in. Maybe have a darker pair for walking into work. I'd go for leather retro styles/fashion styles.

I know going front uniform to non-uniform is difficult but once you've found a few items that you like and suit you, you'll find your style. Enjoy the new job...

I wear sock boots with my cropped trousers in the Winter. You can get various heel shapes and heights in them - I think a low block heel would be most comfortable for you. I also wear them under turned up jeans, they are tight to your ankle and leg so don't add bulk.

I think ankle boots do work depending on the style as long as there a gap between the top of the boot and the bottom of the trouser leg, which might be a bit cold in winter but looks good! I have some Chelsea boots I wear in this way and some pointed toe patent leather heeled ankle boots if I want to dress it up a bit

I like chunky loafers with this look.

I agree with the trainer points above, as long as they are cohesive with the overall outfit I would argue they are good or even better!
Boots also good but probably need to be close fitting around the ankle, like the above mentioned sock boot or some lace up styles.
The last option might not be for you but nice socks with loafers or ballet pump style shoes are also a thing at the moment. So you could wear your loafers with a good quality fine knit sock in a bright blue/red/pink etc.

I agree with PP, sock boots look great, and come in different materials and price points. Even supermarkets sell them.

Pop socks 😄 black, with loafers

I have the same problem and ended up wearing boot cut trousers in autumn/winter!

Loafers or brogues with good socks.
