For the last few years I've made up make up bags of shower gel, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste etc for a local refuge in North Staffs. Last year I had some lovely kind donations from here. I worked for them many years ago, and women often go in there with nothing. So the idea was, we often end up with new make up bags we don't use, and I fill them with first night stuff, and various bits and pieces according to the donation pile. So they can get clean, and actually have something that is theirs, albeit small. Last year I was helped by @Clary and @Experiment626.I apologise if I've forgotten anyone! I have a long posting history under this and other user names. If you think you'd like to clear some of your stash, and do a good thing in the world, please pm me for my address. This year I will take them up on the letter thanking me/us for the stuff, for accountability. TIA.

What a great idea I have quite a few make up bags I don't use (I seem to have a 'buy me a make up bag' sort of face). I don't know how to send a pm from the app but I'll work it out

I don't think you can send a pm from the app, but I might be wrong! It has been known...are you ever using a laptop? I will send you a pm in hope anyhoo. Thanks!

I use a laptop sometimes for Mumsnet so I'll work it out!

Sounds excellent, @SpongeBobJudgeyPants - but (having also volunteered in refuges myself) it’s always worth pointing out to the uninitiated that women in refuges do not want other people’s used, dirty, 10 years old toiletries and cosmetics.

Places I’ve been involved with tended to find themselves inundated, around Christmas, with bags of - essentially - other people’s rubbish. It was tedious to get rid of.

Any donations to refuges should be new, and clean.

Only new stuff. I have assumed that was a given, but to clarify!
