Hello! I have a very formal state dinner type occasion coming up for which the dress code is white tie. I have a gown (photo here I hope) which is one shouldered but am worried I’ll be freezing. Can anyone suggest a formal enough cover up I could wear over it?

For inside? I’d think a bolero jacket. Eg

I actually have a vintage fur stole but wasn’t sure if fur is acceptable…

Take a form of wrap - if at hotel you won’t be cold inside and most state room stuff is warmer than you think :)

Are you worried about inside or outside?

I have a vintage fur coat I dig out for anything outside. I never mention it's real fur and I assume everyone thinks it's fake as it's never been commented on. I got it second hand.

For inside I tend to use a velvet stole - mine is almost a semi circle shape which I like. Mine is 35 years old though so not sure where I would get one today.

I'd probably be tempted to risk fur unless you're likely to be photographed and on a website/in the papers.

Also are there any photos of a previous event you can get? If all the other women are bare armed or were last year, they should have sorted enough heating for wherever the room is that you don't freeze. I usually have my stole in case I'm cold but there have been few dinners where I have needed it for the actual dinner; instead requiring it for drinks before or after.

I always use a silk wrap

It probably isn’t nowadays. But as you already have it. You could always say
Aren’t fakes amazing these days!

Here’s one certain to offend MN posters:

But it is lovely.

Yes you're right. It's offensive and revolting. I wouldn't give the time of day to anyone wearing that.

https://www.helenmoore.com/ Very good fake fur stoles here

Helen Moore's stuff is lovely. I've got a faux fur collar. It's a joy to wear.
