Can someone help me pick an outfit?

I have a theatre trip next month and need help finding something to wear.

It's an afternoon show so nothing too dressy.

I am a tights/dress/docs girl usually but I want something more stylish.

I just have no idea what is stylish tbh!

I am a 36 and a size 14 if that helps.

Budget around £100.

I don’t click links because malware so I’ve screenshotted these 3) £89 love and roses 2)70ish 1) 148 reiss. I love sparkling when it’s dark and cold, I love the pattern of the middle and the elegance of the First

Um, unless you really have no day time, day wear clothes just wear what you normally wear during the day.

People don't dress up for the theatre, even evening performances.

If you wear those sparkling dresses or that LBD, you will really stand out because everybody will be dressed in sweatshirts and jeans! Nothing wrong with that if that's what you intend, but...

How about one of those satin or pleated skirts with a chunky jumper? A bit dressed up but not too much....

You'll be way over dressed in all of those. The black and white one is ok, the other two are way OTT for a matinee and even an evening show.

Well , no, everyone won't be dressed in sweatshirts and jeans. Everyone will be dressed in their standard, non- work, daytime clothes, which might include sweatshirts and jeans.

OP, if you want to buy something new, then of course you should, but make it a casual day dress, new trousers, new dungarees - something you can wear again and again.

People do dress up if they want! Especially if you're going for drinks afterwards! Not everyone wants to slum it on a special night out!

I would wear two of those during the day to be honest. Only the sparkly one is particularly noticeable.

Really liking this idea!

There are no drinks planned afterwards so just want to keep it casual.

I basically live in leggings these days and only go out for the school run so a new outfit is needed.

Just wear a nicer than usual jumper/top and jeans, do your hair and makeup nicely and that will do. Save the 100 quid. Not saying 'slum it' but honestly no one really dresses up for the theatre these days.

CharlotteRumpling · 16/10/2023 19:32

I go to the theatre and ballet often..I usually wear wide leg trousers and a silk shirt, which is dressed up for me. I am nearly always the most dressed up person there.

Zara seemed to have some nice satiny skirts, last time I looked. Everyone in London seems to be wearing them.

Dress, tights and flat boots would be perfect. This is nice (imo) and a bit of a bargain.

There's a bit of a difference between slumming it and wearing something which will make you stick out like someone who's never been to the theatre before.
