Toning down a black real leather mini skirt

I am nearly 60 and have always wanted a straight, close fitting black real leather mini.

How would you suggest wearing one without it looking over the top? I have thought about wearing one on top of leggings or trousers. Maybe even wearing a top which covers most of the skirt length.

I appreciate any advice.

What would be the point of buying one if you’re too embarrassed to wear it?

How would you usually wear a short skirt in Winter? Do that!

It is not that I am too embarrassed. I love the look of them, want one, but would love to wear it stylishly.

Definitely not over trousers or with a long top that nearly covers it! With thick black tights, boots and a thick jumper.

At the moment I’m seeing short skirts or shorts juxtaposed with long coats. Alongside simple jumpers and boots. That looks quite cool.

Agree with wearing it as you would another short skirt. I’d echo suggestions of a polo neck style jumper, thick tights and then flat shoes or boots.

I'm watching a few on vinted I'd planning on pairing with a slightly cropped slightly oversized fluffy jumper or with a slightly loose fitting long sleeved top, tucked in but then sort of pulled out a bit so it's sort of baggy so I have the contrast of the tightness of the skirt and the baggyness of the top.

I think going for tan, burgundy or bottle green will instantly tone it down. Worn with a plain oversized jumper in a neutral colour. Keep everything simple.

Just this week bought myself one! A black, real leather vintage one from Vinted! It's beaut! I intend to wear it with a skin tight, long sleeved black turtle neck top, chunky tights and dr marten Spence boots!

😄 I have seen a commuter! One combo I have seen is a leather mini skirt and a boob tube. I wouldn’t recommend this as a look. For either sex.

Black opaques, big jumper, chunky boots. Like we did in the 80s.

go for it, very on fashion and play it down with the thick tights, chelsea boots and a nice jumper but not too oversized, an keep to warm autum colours like bottle green, ochre and burgundy's, some nice matching coloured make up and messy hair. you will
look fab no matter what ur age.

My neighbour is a very glam 70 yr old biker (with a Harley) size 8, long dark hair, has a leather mini which is usually worn with vest tops in summer or shortish jumpers in winter, scarves, lots of silver jewellery, tights & biker boots.
I'm 30 yrs younger and wish I could style out a leather mini.

Ps do not wear it over trousers or cover it up!

Crisp white loose shirt, loafers, opaque tights. If cold wear black turtleneck instead or turtleneck plus white shirt

I have this one and often wear it work in the same way it’s styled here - ie with a smart blouse, neutral tights and heels. I’ve never thought to wear mine casually with opaques and a jumper but can see that could work!
