Clothing, perfume and makeup compliments from men

Do men ever compliment you on your clothing or makeup?

I was complimented at work this morning by a man who liked my dress.

I loved the compliment and knew he meant it.

I do, weirdly, a lot. But I think it’s because I dress a wee bit whackily and I’m quite smiley and make eye contact. It’s always older men and always in broad daylight so absolutely not threatening.
Very much, “what a lovely frock!”

Floisme · 06/10/2023 17:20

Clothing - yes.
Perfume - once.
Make up - never.

LoopyLooooo · 06/10/2023 17:20

Clothes and shoes, yes.

Makeup, occasionally from male gay friends.

Not recently, but it's not unheard of (by my brother, by colleagues and friends not interested in me in that way, as well as by men who were chatting me up). But my teen DD did yesterday, and I probably value her opinion more than some bloke's 🤣

DramaAlpaca · 06/10/2023 17:25

Yes, by one particular man at work. It's very flattering and really sweet because he's half my age, but I don't take it in the least bit seriously.

Blossomandbee · 06/10/2023 17:48

I've only had my clothes and perfume noticed by DH or men I was previously with.
I can't imagine many men noticing make up unless it was something obvious.
A young salesman who stopped me in the street once said he liked my necklace.

MerryChristmasToYou · 06/10/2023 17:57

I was recently complimented on my scent but I wasn't wearing any - it was my deodorant. It does smell nice. (Salt of the Earth Watermelon).

PearsApplesSatsumas · 06/10/2023 17:59

I often get told I smell nice, which is good to know, but I find a bit of a personal comment and feel a bit embarrassed by it. I don’t really want or like men commenting on anything about me.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a man comment on my clothing!

Softnatural · 06/10/2023 18:15

A man told me I'd got better legs than the much younger women around us last weekend. I told him off for putting them down and for looking at any of our legs, but of course I enjoyed it really Blush

When I'd had rather too much to drink at a wedding recently I spent rather too long telling a man how good he smelt 😁

I had one at work today tell me my clothes were "amazing" - was a bit wierd tbh as he asked me where they were from???

persisted · 06/10/2023 18:30

Occasionally clothes at work, usually if I’m looking a bit smarter than usual.
I’ve had a few comments on bright lipsticks.

Without being specific I work mostly with men who are a bit older than me. They mean it kindly and I take it that way.

Clothes? Yes and often. I’ve been told I’m stylish by men and women.

Perfume? Only if I’m wearing the secret weapon!

Make up? No and I wouldn’t want to be. Subtle all the way (although I’ll always revel in a twat of an ex saying ‘wow’ sotto voce when I walked into a party.

blahblahblah1654 · 06/10/2023 18:40

Yes. A few compliment me on my hair if it's curled, dresses and nail colour. Not makeup though. Someone mentioned I had nice skin earlier in conversation which was sweet.

OhYetAnotherBrickInTheWall · 06/10/2023 18:42

Not to boast (but to boast! I LOVE clothes) but I’ve just recalled a colleague being most cross with me ahead of a 12 hr flight; ‘ffs, do you have clothes for EVERY eventuality?!’

I was wearing cashmere joggers and a vest top plus a cashmere jumper with Ugg boots and a scarf.

YES! Was my answer.

ooh what's the secret weapon????

From two gay close friends, regularly. They always notice what I'm wearing and things like new bag/shoes/jewellery and one, who has a wonderful 'nose' (he chooses beautiful scents/toiletries for me as gifts) often compliments me on my perfume. It's a lovely boost. One of my husband's straight friends who really enjoys fashion himself also often offers compliments and will notice when I've had my hair done. My eldest brother is also very lovely in giving compliments to his wife and me - he also very much loves good quality clothes and scents.

Make up? Nope. I also don't think my husband sees/cares if I wear it or not or notices which is fine by me, I wear it and enjoy experimenting and trying new colours for myself.
