How does a Cello shape look good?

I have large arms small breasts (but a large ribcage), a small and defined but short waist, wide ‘child-bearing’ hips, a wide bum, saddle bags, big thighs / knees, nice calves and ankles (but with varicose veins so I can’t get them out). I’m a size 12/14 up top and a 16/18 bottom, I’m 5 ft 6. I’m also early 40s.

I have a work event I need to go to soon (it’s a high profile tech networking event) and have no idea what to wear to look remotely stylish. I live in straight jeans and sweatshirts as I work from home but big tech CEOs will be there at this thing so I need to do better. Does anyone have any ideas? Would appreciate the help.

@CountryCousin, I totally agree, it depends on the person wearing the garment, should have made plain that I was making a good natured (well intended) joke. I don’t like tight clothing at all, even clothing that is too tailored is too much so I quite like oversized clothing and dresses that are more billowing than close fitting. 😀

Just hopping on to say I read this as “How do I make sellotape look good?”

I’m so glad it wasn’t just me.

I'm a size 12 hourglass - that would look horrendous on me, stomach especially, but perhaps good on a pear/ cello 😅 I'd go for a more modest fit n' flare a la Boden

themagicnumberthree · 15/10/2023 18:21

It's winter though, so Opaque tights would hide the varicose veins?

Ruthdpl · 15/10/2023 19:56

How about a black blazer dress? If you Google them, there are loads about right now👍

LivingOnAPear · 15/10/2023 21:03

I'd wear wide leg trousers with a fitted top or blouse and short jacket which ends at the waist. Then wear some heels and accessories.

CountryCousin · 15/10/2023 21:13

But that’s surely the opposite if what the OP should be doing, @LivingOnAPear - she wants to balance her upper and lower body, not emphasise the disparity between the two.

Aww bless you! It doesn't matter what shape you are on the outside as long as you feel OK on the inside darling. You are loved for who you are not what you are. Being happy and loving yourself regardless is all that matters trust me.

CountryCousin · 15/10/2023 23:02

Are you lost, @Barnabysmum74?

This is the Style and Beauty board, where people gather to discuss clothes and exchange opinions on possible or proposed outfits.

Barnabysmum74 · 15/10/2023 23:29

Sorry I wasn't wearing my glasses haha 😂

The jacket will do that, if it’s how I’m picturing the outfit.
