Smart dress to start a capsule wardrobe

Size 14 at the top and 12 at the bottom I'm a real apple shape. Dresses just don't fit. A 12 is too small at the top and way too big on the hip

Looking for smart clothes to wear for lunch with friends or a glam night on a yacht. So no jeans or trainers 🥲

Go for something that fits your tits and then is a bit swishy lower down, sort of empire line

Pick a dress that goes with a jacket and shoes you already own and you are on your way to the capsule wardrobe.

Could you get a dressmaker to make adjustments?

Yes absolutely I could if I found the right dress. I'm definitely more comfortable in country casual lol x

Sounds fun. What’s the context - why are you starting a capsule wardrobe now; will it only be for glamorous leisure activities; how much do you want to spend on your dress? And where do you usually shop?

I'm very country casuals. Autumn and winter is usually Barbour jackets, silk scarves, trilby hats, gilets. usually navy or cream with long or ankle boots and handbags in tan. We're going to be meeting friends at nice hotels and I'd like to look dressed up. My friends are more officed based so are used to dresses and heels

Sorry very badly explained. I'm looking for a dress to start a capsule wardrobe. If anyone could recommend a nice dress then I could probably start with it that and get shoes/bags etc

Why don't you look for either a plain navy, or a print that has navy in it to start as a base piece, like this one, with black shoes and handbag to go with it.

You could add each month one piece or one outfit that is cohesive; it doesn't need to be a match, but it could be worn with other pieces. For instance in November you could buy navy trousers and pink or burgundy blouse. The same handbag would match.
