As the nice weather has disappeared, I need some new trousers for work. All I want is comfortable, wide ish leg, smart, machine washable and with pockets, preferably in a grey and not shiney/cheap looking.

My budget is up to £150 for the right pair, but I’m failing to find any that tick all the boxes. Please can someone help?!

Just to emphasize I need actual pockets that I can fit an actual normal iPhone in, not pretend pockets or lady dinky pockets that might hold a 10p to phone home from a call box pocket.

It's a myth. Most things that say not machine washable can washed on a gentle wool cycle. Never had an issue...

Uniqlo has amazing brushed wool-feel (it's actually a cotton blend) wide legged trousers at an insanely good price. Honestly they are trouncing every other shop right now on quality and price, not quite sure how they're doing it!

Madewell have loads of nice trousers. I have thesein black and they are very nice

Find the trousers you like and then open the seams at the side and fit your own pocket. A very easy thing to do.

Marks and Spencers have several different grey wide leg trousers.

These are literally the best trousers I've ever bought - they have an elasticated waist but still look ridiculously smart. They're so comfy and an absolute bargain at £38. They're described as jersey but they're lovely heavy drapey fabric and have texture so look like wool. They're also described as black but are much more of a dark charcoal.

I'm tempted to buy the other colour but they look very like a polyester Damart pair my late mum used to wear so I'm too afraid 🙄
