Autumn/Winter office wear - skirts and jumpers

I've had a look in mind, midi length skirt with a nice warm jumper, and have been searching for a while now. All I can find is satin looks and that's not for me.

Has anyone bought anything for work recently for the cold weather coming? Last year I wore dresses so fancy a change. Thanks 😊

I don’t have an office to go to but I do favour Maison Margiela style tweed skirts. (Real or respectful imitation.) Also have no interest in satin skirts, however fashionable they may be.

There’s a lot of cord around this year - would that be of interest?

I’m pretty sure House of Bruar is referenced chez Margiela, @CharlotteRumpling!

I adore that navy wool pleated MaxMara skirt, @NatashaDancing.

But these two would really brighten up an office day. (The blue is upper High St price, the lime, not so much. I want it.)

They would indeed. Post Covid office wear has loosened up. The Max Mara skirts I posted are pre Covid office wear, those, especially the lime green might have raised an eyebrow for a senior role in a formal office, but not now.

Same with the Batsheva denim skirt. I like the fact it comes in size 0 to 20 and it's size 2 and 14 that's sold out.

Yes you are probably right @MayIDestroyYou. I tend to dress like Miss Marple when I do wear skirts or dresses.
I like the Max Mara and that olive House of Belfast.

MayIDestroyYou · 01/10/2023 13:15

Oh, you mean Envoy of Belfast! Grin

Yes, it is rather lovely. Proper cotton velvet, too - not the usual unsatisfactory cost cutting equivalent.

VisaWoes · 01/10/2023 13:17

Tesco had stretchy ribbed midi skirts in brown and black I saw yesterday. They looked nice on the hangers. I already have a black one from a few years ago (not tesco) so didn’t investigate further.

CharlotteRumpling · 01/10/2023 13:22

Yes sorry, Envoy of Belfast!

MayIDestroyYou · 01/10/2023 13:32

Miss Marple is goals. (HmmGrin)

The only thing is, now I’m roughly her age I have to go to some effort to fashion a fairly extreme, look at my tweed skirt and chunky cardigan! style, rather than allowing anything quiet and retiring. Margiela, Marni, Sofie D’Hoore, and occasionally Zara provide the right sort of thing. (New / sale / pre-owned …)

lindyloo57 · 01/10/2023 15:44

The trouble with tesco knits is it will be acyclic, so within two wears will bobble like mad, thats what happed to a lovely black knitted midi I brought from tesco last year.

Thanks everyone, the straight more pencilly style isn't me really. The Palaver ones might work if I can't find the right jumper, thanks for the advice everyone 😊

I'll take a look at cord too 👍

Try SeaSalt for a cord skirt. £68.

Sorry link doesn't work - try searching "Marble black pleated skirt".

MayIDestroyYou · 01/10/2023 17:56

Link works.

Do you not find that skirt rather … dull, though?

It might not be lighting any fashion fires but I wanted a black pleated skirt that wasn't flimsy for a chilly office and it fits the bill perfectly. There are dozens of black pleated skirts out there this year - are they all dull too?

Each to their own 🙂
