Washing out hair dye?

Okay, so dyed my hair for the first ever time a permanent colour, but never washed out with shampoo, am I supposed to? I just rinsed until the water was clear (ish) then conditioned and washed that out too.

I wash out permanent dye with shampoo. Otherwise I wake up with a brown pillowcase.

Yes - wash it twice with shampoo.
