A mini skirt that actually covers my arse

madamreign · 23/09/2023 09:24

Do they exist for the large of arse?

I'm an hour glass, size 12-14. 5' 4"

Basically I want skirts that stop just above my knee but won't ride or fly up.

It's trousers or maxi skirts at the moment.

Midi skirts are maxi on me.

this is not a mini skirt, that might be the problem if you are filter websites for 'mini'

KnickerlessParsons · 23/09/2023 10:06

M&S usually have a lot of skirts of the length you're looking for, but they aren't called mini skirts.

madamreign · 23/09/2023 10:08

What are they called then?

Midi go nearly to my ankles

Shops that appeal to more mature customers tend to have mini skirts in this sort of length. So White Stuff, Seasalt, maybe FatFace...

madamreign · 23/09/2023 14:45

Is there anywhere that sells skirts cut longer in the back than the front?

Skirts of this length aren’t really the thing at the moment, which will probably be why you’re struggling.

it’s quite an unflattering length too imo - I usually find actual miniskirts (maybe and inch or two past fingertip length) to be a lot more flattering.

You could wear thick opaques, maybe with modestly shorts if you’re worried about flashing?

I hate the word, but what you’re describing sounds like a really frumpykind of look.

arintingly · 23/09/2023 15:11

@AnaNimmity I am the same height as the OP and an inch or two below finger tip length is just above the knee!

marketing101 · 23/09/2023 15:17

Wouldn't any mini skirt be the right length for you? I'm 5ft 9 so everything ends up looking super mini on me 🙈 you can't win

clowniform · 23/09/2023 15:21

As you say OP it's a fashion thing, the knee-length skirts you want have been less popular for years so it's either mini or midi-maxi in most shops. Agree with checking less trendy brands, Boden too (which do petite lengths).
As to the waist/hip ratio issue I share your pain, so took up dressmaking. There's no way I can just buy off the peg bottoms that fit well unless there's elastic involved.

TropicalTrama · 23/09/2023 15:21

If you want knee length, as opposed to a mini skirt, probably want to look for pencil skirts. It’s a pretty corporate look though. So if it’s not for the office I’d personally go shorter, make sure it’s not too small because that’s what causes it to ride up, and wear with thick black opaques.

Having my knickers on display or even just the rear view of the crotch of my tights, is even less flattering.

If it’s below fingertip length, as many of the current skirts in the shops are, then by definition you will have neither of these things on display.

Even less so if you wear modestly shorts.

I’m the same height, and it really isn’t!

Knee length in M&S. Actually means midpoint between pelvic crease and knee, but in the real world, some of us need more than 5 inches below the gusset.

arintingly · 23/09/2023 16:51

AnaNimmity · 23/09/2023 16:34

I’m the same height, and it really isn’t!

It is for me! It will depend on your proportions, of course.

But I also have the same experience as the OP with "midi" length being barely above my ankles

KnickerlessParsons · 23/09/2023 19:26

Is this the kind of length you're looking for?

I have been browsing at M&S and found this: https://www.marksandspencer.com/cotton-rich-cord-animal-print-mini-skirt/p/clp22573159?intid=mobileappppdpshare

That longer red one is lovely, knees are so ugly I wouldn't want mine on show.

Shadypaws23 · 23/09/2023 19:40

Snag ones are longer at the back. You have to look past a lot of the styling but I wear the pencil one or the flare for work

lindyloo57 · 23/09/2023 20:03

I've just brought the m&s leather mini skirt, it's just the right length I'm 5ft2, for me to wear with thick tights.

I really like that red tartan one. Might buy it myself.

lookingforMolly · 24/09/2023 03:34

I get my short dresses from River Island, usually online. I look at what height the model is and guaranteed if the skirt is fairly shortish on them it will be longer on me.
I'm 5'4" & 14st so a size 16 in RI & I have a curvy bum but with slim legs.
