Why doesn't the fly cover on my trousers sit nicely?

This is driving me mad. On a couple of my pairs of trousers the cover to the zip fly is creased and just will not sit 'flush'. It just crease and juts out weirdly.

I DO iron them and it doesn't help!

Anyone had this and any solutions? Am I wearing the wrong size or washed them wrong or something?

I have this and I think it's because I wore them when really I should have had the next size up, now I have lost 4 stone the zip has been bent out of shape. I am gonna try steaming them to fix it. Cos trousers so expensive to chuck away.

To be honest, I think you might need a different size. Your button is quite strained. Don’t be swayed by the sizes on the labels, just check the fit. I am a bog standard 12 and I have everything from a 10 to a 16 in trousers.

Skeldale · 19/09/2023 20:49

I have a few pairs like this. I've tried sizing up but then I have too much material around my stomach and bum! I've decided when I'm a millionaire I will have all my clothes made to measure.

ChickpeaPie · 19/09/2023 20:55

You can tell they’re too tight by the way the button is angled

anomaly2 · 19/09/2023 21:01

Too tight. If you pull sideways the cop always does this.

Butterkist8 · 19/09/2023 21:07

They're too tight. The straining at the waist is a give away.
Sorry.

This, my trousers are somewhere between an 8 and a 14. Don't worry too much about the number, it is a guide.

That particular trouser, you need to size up.

Sometimes you and a certain style will just not work, they will be too tight, too baggy or both at the same time🙃

Thanks all. Actually just taking the picture made me suspect this, so thanks for confirming (nicely).

As @Skeldale said I have the issue that if I size up I often have way to much material around the waist and the waist band flaps. But I will have to keep looking for good trousers for those with an ample bottom half, but smaller waist....probably elastic waist!

@ChickpeaPie sorry to ask what may be an obvious qu - when you say the way the button is angled, do you mean the way it's all to one side and not in the middle of the button hole?

For those saying you need to size up and/or the button is strained, I don’t think it is that straightforward. Some of my trousers are like this when l first put them on after they have been washed. But after an hour or so, l can’t wear them without a belt, some l can then take off without undoing them. They also go very baggy round the bum. Different brands and cuts are often the same.

Fortunately, I am more of a “dress girl” but subconsciously, l wonder if this is one of the reasons why.

I think she means that the button doesn’t sit flat and is angled upwards and also is pulled to one side as the waistband is too tight.
