What to wear for an arty internship?

My niece is starting one in a gallery in town. I’m over the moon for her as it’s a start and she’s a brilliant artist but very shy. She’s done really well to get (unless it’s horrendous time will tell) She is living with me so she can get the tube in. I want to help her get a cheap ish work wardrobe together so she won’t be self conscious is Soho. She’s abit goth at the moment likes her black, I think it’s a confidence thing. Where can we get some key pieces from? What would you creatives suggest? Her make up is always fabulous but she’s not very out there with clothes. I’ve suggested she might want to drop the docs at least a couple days a week 😀

Black, chunky boots like docs and something a bit different (in her case makeup) is the standard arty uniform. She's already there as far as I'm concerned but maybe offer her the option of buying some extra bits when she's been in a few days.

If you want to get her something now maybe a good spacious cross body bag for the tube ride, this one by Uniqlo U doesn't look like much but it looks very different when worn and gets the in the know arty crowd going ooh and ah over it atm and is most noticeably not that ubiquitous other Uniqlo bag.

Have you visited the gallery and seen what others wear.

Depending on where it is and the clientele I am guessing they may wear quite individual styles to more usual stylish professional.

No idea it’s happened really quickly it’s one of those small ones in central. They interviewed all day. It’s a start. I don’t think she will love getting paid just her travel but it’s a starting point.

She did well getting the offer and now it will be on her CV.

Congratulations! I know from my own two how difficult it can be finding that first opening. I hope she enjoys it and learns a lot.
