Recommendations for wide-leg or tapered cord

LaRevolution · 18/09/2023 13:57

I'm after some soft tailored cords for work - either wide-leg (probably cropped) or tapered ones that I could wear with loafers/brogues.

I've seen the Lucy & Yak ones recommended but I'm not sure whether the elasticated waist would look smart enough

Ideally I want a dark green or burgundy, or maybe sort of burnt orange, with pockets, and under £60ish please. Any recs?

Ooh thank you @TheOGCCL - love the colour of the Boden ones, and the shape of both the Seasalt pairs. (Also very much appreciate you naming the links accurately instead of just putting "this pair" as the link text 😂). Do you have any of these?

I have the first Seasalt pair in an almost black (previous season) and will try some of the other colours. They are quite smart as they are flat fronted, but not exactly cutting edge.

I find some a lot of cords are too high waisted for me, particularly the flared/wide legs - flattering but too tight for my liking. I also don't like the when the cord has too thick a wale as they suit me better when the cord is more delicate. The Seasalt ones I have are more of a moleskin but very cord like.

I only wear cord trousers in the winter so am quite pleased with the number around at the moment (and cord in general - have you seen the thread on cord?). I quite like the look of these Thought ones as well but they look quite high waisted and they have that elasticated bit at the back which wouldn't be so smart. Thought have a 20% new customer discount.

I've been eyeing these Porfell Trousers - Seasalt Cornwall up

caramond · 18/09/2023 16:03

M&S has a few options currently - I have the wide leg ones in dark green and navy, and the cord is super soft. They look more like wide leg jeans in their cut though so maybe won't be tailored enough for your needs.

They also have a tapered style in the Per Una line, and another wide leg too also in Per Una. I was looking at them all in a shop yesterday so was able to compare in person.

I love the Uniqlo wide legged cords. Very flattering, great colours. Can;t link as on a train with patchy internet. but worth a look.

LaRevolution · 18/09/2023 20:05

Ahh thanks so much everyone, appreciate these recs. @TheOGCCL I haven't seen that thread so will search ASAP! I quote like those Thought ones - I don't mind a bit of elasticated at the back, if they tick the other boxes.

@KirstenBlest those are lovely - please report back if you buy them!

@caramond I might try and nip to M&S at lunchtime this week, it's the sort of thing they do well.

@TotalOverhaul ahh thank you - I looked at those earlier! They have another style too.i find Uniqlo styling and photos very difficult to get my head round but I might order them for a gander, as I do like the look of them.

I have had several pairs of the Seasalt Crackington Trousers over the years they are quite flattering and wash very well but I did find that the ones I ordered this year were a bit bigger than all my previous pairs so had to return them. I also recently bought the M&S wide leg and they are very nice, I also bought the Per Una wide leg but they were slightly bigger so they had to go back. I might try the Per Una tapered leg cords.

KirstenBlest · 18/09/2023 20:26

I don't think I'll buy them (skint) but I've been eyeing up the wool jumpers too. I never thought I'd want anything from Seasalt. I think I must be officially old. Smile

Its worth looking on the Seasalt eBay outlet as they are cheaper on there and it's often free delivery if you spend over about £20 and free returns

LaRevolution · 18/09/2023 22:11

Well thanks for that, @User17439824 - just spent £130 on the Seasalt eBay outlet, mainly on linen trousers and on absolutely no cords 😂

I have the seasalt lamledra cords in many colours and love them, though have had them retailored to be skinny on me. I also like the White Stuff ones. Haven’t figured out how to do links on here though!

Omg looking at these I am now lusting after a
pair of Jigsaw Delmont Cord Jeans!!!

DearRose · 30/09/2023 19:18

I've just tried the seasalt porfell ones. The fabric is lovely and I really like them. However, I'm 5'4 and 58kg. I usually take a 10, but found them very large - there was enough room in the waistband for me to fit my arm down there! Also the regular length didn't come out as cropped on me. So I have ordered size 8 petite instead.

LaRevolution · 30/09/2023 22:15

Just reporting back on my Seasalt order - everything was lovely but all the trousers (linen) were insanely long. I am slightly above average height! So maybe bear this in mind if ordering Seasalt trews?
