Attention all Dermatica users, they are ripping us off by reducing the product size!

I got an email from Dermatica yesterday telling me that they were reducing the amount of treatment I would receive each month from 15ml to 12.5ml and that this was inline with customer feedback from people who say they have too much product left at the end of the month. This is after a price increase in May (£22 to £24.99) this year. Dermatica's socials are showing that many people are really unhappy with this change and that they feel ripped off by the reduced amount.

I contacted dermatica and they responded saying this:

"Due to inflation, the cost of the ingredients we use in our personalised formulas has increased. To avoid increasing costs further without sacrificing quality, we decided to reduce our bottle size – as many of our customers told us they weren’t able to use all their formula before the expiry date. This ultimately means less product goes to waste each month, and it saves on the cost of the high-quality ingredients we won’t compromise on."

Now I personally use all my 15ml prior to a new one arriving and so this change negatively affects me and many others who use all the treatment in a month. I'm also really angry that they weren't at least up front about there reasons for making these changes i.e. to increase their profits and tried to palm it off as something we had asked for.

A reduction of 2.5 ml each month means we are getting 30ml less a year (two 15ml bottles worth) to the value of £50! Add to that there are people who paid for a years subscription upfront believing they would be getting 15ml each month. This change also affects them.

I think they are treating their customers appallingly and I will certainly be looking to switch providers, get my tretinoin elsewhere, at the prices they are charging now I may as well just see a private dermatologist to get my prescription!

Anyway I just wanted to let any subscribers who may have missed the email know about this change and perhaps we can share any tips on where to get tretinoin elsewhere?

I don't get them anymore but I got the email a d thought the same. I actually had to scrimp a little towards the end of the month to ensure I have enough.

@Foxesandsquirrels Yep it was already a pricy product when tretinoin is actually really cheap but it was convenient so I went with them but they've pushed me too far now I tell ye!

thats interesting. I really struggle to use the whole tube. I get through a tube every three months. My skin isn’t very tolerant of it. They put a really tight use by date on it to stop you using it over several months and skipping your subscription. I’m never sure if it really goes off that quick or it’s just money making.

hotteabag · 14/09/2023 15:57

@qwerty222 It doesn't go off at all, I have had tubes of tretinoin from the doctors which have at least 6 months on them if not longer. There expiry date is just to try and make you subscribe more frequently, ideally they want everyone getting a new tube every 28 days to the tune of £25 a month / £300 a year. If it doesn't work next they will be reducing the size to 10 ml.

I used it for quite a while and it did nothing for me. They must make a shit tonne of money!
I use products from the ordinary now and my meno skin looks so much better.

Thank you so much for making the wider community aware of this. I’m a 33 year old man and I’ve been using Dermitica for around 5 months now. The absolute ridiculous email that Dermitica sent out to us is outrageous! In my opinion the bottle of our “personalised formula” is not big enough to start with! They say to apply 2 pumps to your face and neck! I’m sorry but I’m not someone who has very dry skin, my skin is slightly oily and I can barely get passed my forehead without the 2 pumps absorbing immediately! I have to use anywhere from 4 to 6 pumps to cover my full face and neck, and even that requires me to have a full shave as any stubble or a beard means the formula is lost amongst the stubble. For Dermitica to claim that the reason for the reduction is based on customer feedback is ridiculous. I use numerous Dermitica products but the reduction is something I will no longer be paying for. I’d like to hear from other men. I’ve seen comments from women who can make sure they get full coverage with 2 pumps. I have always tried to look after my skin and my skin has felt better with these products compared to the ridiculously priced of other products I’ve used, but even the Dermitica moisturisers require me to use 4 to 5 pumps to get full face and neck coverage.

Dermitica needs to take ownership and admit they need to save money instead of saying customers want to pay more for less! This has really annoyed me and my subscription and all of the Dermitica products I’ve purchased separately will be my last!

Even the “expiry date” encourages people to purchase more quickly.

Thanks again for your commentary on this. Price increases and paying for less at the same time is beyond the pale! Just be honest Dermitica! Don’t try to say customers want to pay more for less!

I think skin&me is a bit more expensive but I use that and it measures out 28 doses per month. I really like that it does that as I’m a bit rubbish with knowing the right amount of creams etc to use. I usually have a night off per week.
