I bought the best jumper of my life last year from Babaa, I love it so much and definitely a purchase for life BUT it was really expensive (for me anyway) so I'm after any other recommendations - I also love Jaggery London and Charlknits but really would like some others not quite so eye wateringly expensive. I'm specifically after a good navy chunky cardigan. I got this from Uniqlo and love it but not sold in navy.

TIA

Babaa is one of my favourites!

A few from those saved on my Home Screen:

& Daughter
Begg & Co
Community Clothing (when they bring out a short run of celebratory colours like last Winter’s shocking pink beanie).
Jo Gordon (make the best presents for my favourite people).
La Fetiche (such extraordinary colours and patterns I think they’re actually retraining my brain).
Le Kasha (though I need more colours).
Margaret Howell (ditto).
Margiela 😍
Studio Nicholson (though they now seem to be economising by mixing wool with other materials).
Marni (such artistry).
Rus (properly 21st century)!
Queene & Belle (I so miss them at their best and most productive).
The Elder Statesman (because we’re all billionaires … ).

That’s a dozen …

(I’m maybe a tiny bit knitwear obsessed…)

(I guess I’m obliged to mention that all these brands are probably available pre-owned.)

MetaDaughter · 09/09/2023 09:49

In fact, given that you’re looking for less expensive things I should probably emphasise that good knitwear can be bought for a fraction of its original price on pre-owned sites.

Thank you so much, so many good brands to look through. I can never find babaa for much less than the original price. It’s on my Christmas list 😊

These are the ones I'd love to try:

Genevieve Sweeney
The knotty ones
Hilary Grant

But more realistically, M&S men's knitwear in the sale.

Thank you both. I'm not sure if either of you follow ahistoryinarchitecture on Instagram but everything she wears & tags is amazing.

I do OP, lovely style. But I am boggled by the sheer number of different clothes she wears. Even putting environmental issues aside, I like to see the same things worn different ways and different settings.

I know! I did see her mention that she sells them but I have yet to find the selling site.

That Babas one is beautiful. I love Finisterre knitwear - I buy it when it pops up half price in the sale. I've got a lovely Brora Fair Isle jumper I bought using birthday gift vouchers. Had some really lovely knitwear from Arket and Cos that has really lasted well and kept good shape after LOTS of use. I've got one very similar to this https://www.handknitted.is/product/ald%C3%ADs/169 for very cold days - I had to try about 30 different sizes and styles on to find the right one but very glad I did. I love chunky knits and fisherman style jumpers.

Oo @bingohandjob is Finisterre good quality? It keeps popping up in my feed but I've never seen anything by them in the flesh

thedevilinablackdress · 09/09/2023 15:48

Ooh, Finisterre...I've been eyeing their knitwear too.
I've had trousers, jackets, and merino base layers from them and always pleased with the quality.

bingohandjob · 09/09/2023 16:49

Finisterre is really good quality, I think - I've got a chunky fisherman jumper that still looks like new 3 years on, a finer knit merino blend hoodie that I've had for at least 6 years that is the best layer for planes, festivals, camping etc that again looks great, a grey funnel neck (similar to this but I got it in 2020 and on eBay 'as new' for £40) https://finisterre.com/collections/womens-knitwear/products/womens-wool-blend-mora-roll-neck-jumper-navy there woollen socks are also fab - these for dog walking duties are great https://finisterre.com/products/dizzard-sock-wool-sky-blue-ecru (they are often on offer and I got sent a tenner off the other week which was handy!). Love their beanies too and I think they make nice gifts at Christmas, especially the RNLI ones.

Women's Navy Roll Neck Wool Knit Jumper - Mora | Finisterre

The Mora is a casual take on the classic ribbed fisherman's jumper, in a sustainable flecked wool yarn that isn't too thick but keeps you warm.

&Daughter are really good quality, expensive but the sales are good.

I bought a cotton jumper last year from The Knottty Ones and highly recommend.

Izzy Lane has some good options, and their wool is from rescue sheep. The socks make good presents.

Mercurial123 · 09/09/2023 17:53

Raey from Matches can also be a good option.

MetaDaughter · 09/09/2023 19:14

I mentioned The Elder Statesman above; I’ve only ever bought the odd thing massively reduced from maybe Net-a-Porter or Matches.

But - won’t someone buy me this? Is there no one who loves me enough? 😍😍😍

I buy my knitwear from Reiss or Sezane. When it comes to wool, there is a massive difference between a cheap sweater and an expensive one, but then if you taken really really good care of them, they last years.
The good ones, I wash by hand only, then I tap the excess water out with clean towels and dry flat.

Thanks all - found some lovely gems. I'll need to get saving ;)
