Going out out what should I wear?

Okay I'm middle aged and fat with big boobs but I'm having a girls night out (drinks/dinner) and want to look up to date and nice rather than mutton dressed as lamb. What's a more modern take on the jeans and nice top scenario? Size 18-20, short, big boobs. Budget - not too much, maybe £150? Thanks!

The night out in question is in Liverpool if that makes any difference. Thanks!

Thank you - I actually love the second one but I don't do bare legs (varicose veins) - could I wear it with leggings or is that weird? It feels weird.

Opaque tights with it, or knee boots?

lurchermummy · 08/09/2023 18:35

Opaque tights could work as long as it's not as hot as it is this weekend!! Night out is next weekend.

I love that. I have been eying up those one hundred stars kimonos for ages

TotalOverhaul · 08/09/2023 18:43

That kimono is lovely oP. And wide legs trousers are a nice change from jeans.

The green dress above would also look lovely but I'd wear tights not leggings. Leggings with a dress are very mumsy if that;s a look you want to avoid.

That deep orange dress is a very fashionable colour. i've seen trendy people all over London wearing it. The other latest trend I've seen, including on lots of plus size women, is satin bias cut maxi skirts. They are suddenly 'in.'
But I love that kimono...

Britpopbaby · 08/09/2023 18:47

I think that you could wear glossy black or sheet tights.

Britpopbaby · 08/09/2023 18:49

I think accessories are the way to make any outfit night time/ going out appropriate!

lurchermummy · 08/09/2023 20:00

Ooh @Britpopbaby I quite like that blouse...it says sleeveless but it's not...which is good as I don't do sleeveless (psoriasis) - I sound like an absolute treasure don't I...

That kimono OP is lovely and it'll be nice and cool. Great choice! Have a lovely time out out 🥂 xx

Lentilweaver · 08/09/2023 20:13

Apparently, according to S and B, jeans and a nice top are no longer trendy! This is why there are no longer any nice tops. I feel your pain.

I am in London, and I second the suggestion of satin skirt and a fitted black top. I like the kimono as well.

What do people think to this? Or is it a bit "old"? (Of course I AM old at 55 but don't want to look like my Mum....)

Stork Black Midi Kimono – One Hundred Stars

This is really cool, much better than the short dresses IMO

EllaMenopee · 08/09/2023 20:34

Love the kimono. Your link has just cost me a fortune...

Lentilweaver · 08/09/2023 20:45

What worries me about those kimonos is they are one size fits all from 8 to 20! I dont do well with one-size-fits-all. Also am quite small busted, so they may be too loose there.

lurchermummy · 08/09/2023 23:16

@Lentilweaver I think the same but for the opposite reason...might order one and see!

I bought one this summer and love it.
