Does lemon juice really lighten blonde hair?

In the sun?

Or is that just one of the stupid things I tried as a teenager

Nah. My friend with gorgeous, long mid-blonde hair tried it on holiday once in Spain - sat in the sun all day with it on. Result: sticky mess. 😂

That def sounds like my teens in the 90's. Along with a bottle of Sun-In 😂

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 03/09/2023 15:24

It worked for me. I'm not a true blonde, but it lightened my hair so much that it was obvious when it was growing out.

booktokbear · 03/09/2023 15:28

@HonoriaLucastaDelagardie Did it really dry your hair out?

I think it to quickens the effects of sun on your hair, so I'd assume that it would make it straw like?

NeunundneunzigHorseBallonz · 03/09/2023 15:30

No but it dries the absolute fuck out of it, irritates the scalp (and face) and makes you smell like burnt marmelade.

Scousemousey · 03/09/2023 15:31

Like a blonde haystack.

Tilllly · 03/09/2023 15:44

So basically no...,🤣

What about wet hair drying in the sun?

Did it really dry your hair out?

I don't recall that it did, but it was a long time ago. I only did it once, as I recall.

My hair always does go lighter in the summer, but the lemon juice really made a difference. One of my friends was convinced I had actually dyed it blonde.

ohtowinthelottery · 03/09/2023 16:40

I remember using Sun In as a teenager and ending up with orange hair
I do remember having more success with chamomile shampoo though and have just googled it and confirmed that it is indeed a natural lightening agent.

All I can think of with lemon juice is the number of wasps you'd be attracting at the moment!

ditalini · 03/09/2023 16:45

Oh my god. I'd successfully wiped the memory of my summer with the massive Sun-In stripe until now.

"With lemon" so it was "natural"...

Floisme · 03/09/2023 16:55

I think it did (it was a long time ago) but not in a good way.
Mind you, it wasn't as bad as Sun-in

Housewife2010 · 03/09/2023 17:10

It worked for me. I have dark brown hair. In the 80s I sunbathed with coconut oil on my skin and lemon juice on my hair. I ended up very tanned with coppery streaks in my long hair. I didn't attract any wasps.

Tilllly · 03/09/2023 18:27

Sun in made me look like crystal tipps

My mum bought this groundbreaking leave in conditioner from Avon (one touch???) and it was still o few days before it didn't feel like a Brillo pad
