Recommend me some candles that won't turn the walls black

Sorry I'm not sure if this is more style and beauty or home decoration but since this board seems more active I thought I'd ask your advice.
I'm after some candles now we head into autumn winter. I prefer warm/ spice smells to fruity or floral (except apple or christmas themed ones which i love) and I am so sick of candles ruining my walls and ceilings with black smoke. Any ideas for which ones don't do this or do they all end up turning black before long? Have a tkmaxx nearby with so many options so any recommendations from there appreciated

You need soy wax candles.

It sounds like the flame is burning too high which means the wax isn't burning correctly. Trim your wicks and let the candle burn to form a pool to the rim of the glass.

I have never had this problem with any candle. Are you burning them too close to the ceiling or in a ‘niche’? Do you trim the wick before each use? Are you burning them for too long (i.e. more than three hours).

I only buy non paraffin wax candles (nothing to do with smoke, I don’t want us to breathe it) with natural fragrances, or burn essential oil in a burner. No problems with either. Can’t help with TK Maxx!

Dont buy cheap candles for a start! Get natural candles made from soy wax or beeswax.

Are you not worried about your lungs???

From tkmaxx try either ‘sand and fog’ or ‘dw home’ brands of candle. Both are great and they have loads of lovely autumn scents in. If you have a home sense nearby, that’s even better as they have a much bigger range than is available in tkmaxx. Also agree with other posters - make sure you’re trimming your wick after each use, and let the candle burn for at least 2 hours first burn, and an hour each burn after that, to avoid tunnelling.

I possibly do burn for too long, tend to light in an evening after work and blow our before bed so will be more aware of that. I also tend to buy those really large ones and I'm wondering if its better to buy smaller ones.
Will look at soy, any recommendations?

When I saw make the walls black I only mean greying behind where the candle sits on the shelf, black is a slight exaggeration but even so, as a PP said, it can't be good for the lungs! Thanks for all the suggestions/ideas to prevent this
