Best detangling spray for fine hair

7 yo DD has long fine hair but loads of it. It gets terribly tangled and she hates having the knots brushed out. Can I please have recommendations rations for the best detangling spray for kids, to save her tears and my sanity.
Thanks.

Bump! I remember how awful this felt. As an adult I comb the knots out while conditioning my hair but imagine it’s different for a child:

What we do is loads of conditioner in the hair, while in the bath, and then comb it out gently and thorughly. The gooeyness somehow makes it less painful a process. Job done. I guess this is the same as detangler stuff you asked about.

daytriptovulcan · 01/09/2023 22:51

Oh, thats been suggested already 😊

daffodilandtulip · 01/09/2023 22:54

Not specifically for children but I use the milkshake spray in.

BecauseOfTheRain · 01/09/2023 23:00

We use children's farm tea tree & grapefruit spray for quite fine hair and it works well, with the added bonus that apparently nits hate tea tree!

BecauseOfTheRain · 01/09/2023 23:01

And a tangle teaser hairbrush always!

Clefable · 01/09/2023 23:02

We just use cheap supermarket stuff (or you can make your own by mixing water and conditioner in a spray bottle) and a tangle teezer brush.

Clicheinaqashqai · 01/09/2023 23:06

My DD has very fine curls and we use the my little Coco apple and pear detangler and it works great, better than the l'oreal one we first tried.

I also brush whist conditioner is on in the shower, but use the Aussie leave in conditioner spray for between washes.

Revlon one post hair wash helps x

Milkshake leave in conditioner plus a Wet Brush. I swore by Tangle Teezers for years but this is so much better.

I have the same issue with my 6yo. It’s not answering your question, but I find that regular hair cuts make it much easier to manage and brush. As does plaiting the hair rather than leaning it loose all the time.

At the moment I use this diary from Briogeo which works well:

I use the 10 in 1 miracle spray from Amazon.
It's amazing

I already do this but she's a restless sleeper so wakes up looking like she's been dragged through a hedge!

Yes we do this too, but then towel drying her hair makes it knotty again!

I am teaching my daughter to brush her own hair as it’s much less painful doing it yourself rather than having someone else do it.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 02/09/2023 10:24

What kind of brush are you using? A tangle teezer or Wet Brush are best for detangling before brushing through with a bristle brush.

The fix for my DD was to have her hair cut into a bob. If you want to keep it long then it’s essential to use a protective hair style overnight like a loose plait. Silk pillowcases are a bit much for a child but cotton sateen rather than poly cotton or cotton percale helps. You might even want to consider a silk scrunchie or bonnet.

ShadyPaws · 02/09/2023 10:28

Don't rub it with a towel or it will knot up again. Get a cotton t shirt or cotton tea towel and blot the water out of it by squeezing

CopperLion · 02/09/2023 10:29

Have only dealt with thick (vs. fine) hair but can recommend Aussie leave in conditioner spray (smells lovely too!). Make sure you use a normal conditioner too as part of the wash. Also a wide tooth plastic comb, the chunkier the better. I have a Tangle Teaser but think they are overrated.

SausageinaBun · 02/09/2023 10:31

We couldn't get on with the Avon one. We use Aussie leave in conditioner spray instead and tangle tamer hair brush. DD1 has fine, curly, dry hair and it gets awfully tangled after it's washed. It looks lovely and curly, but gets matted in places. I use lots of the Aussie spray to brush out tangles and then spray in more and scrunch to try to revive her curls.

minipie · 02/09/2023 10:34

Plaiting at night has made the biggest difference. Like your DD, mine is a restless sleeper and the tossing and turning at night made huge knots. We now plait every night and it has mostly solved the problem.

We also have the Aussie detangling spray but it just makes her hair look dirty (works a treat for my other DD who has wavy thick dry hair though)

EveryOtherNameTaken · 02/09/2023 11:00

It's all about the brush!

Make sure you always brush before washing to get all the loose hair out. Then wash and conditon. After towel drying use a spray in conditioner before brushing again.

I have long very fine hair and a good detangke brush stops it snapping.

Also get a silk pillowcase to help stop the hair matting so much overnight!
