Are we wearing tweed ponchos?

I found a vintage tweed poncho for £10 and I snapped it up. Its in perfect condition. However now I've got buyer's remorse because tweed poncho. I look like an eccentric middle-aged woman. Which I am, but I was going for a more sophisticated vibe.

How to style? Any inspiration?

They remind me of one of those cooks, The Two Fat Ladies. So for me, unless you’re young and slim, it’s a no.

If it's a cape-style poncho then I think it can look quite regal and country estate but if it's an over-the-head traditional poncho I'm not so sure.

Sounds like an amazing bargain!
I’d google dark academia for some inspiration - might that sort of style work?

I'm size eight if that makes a difference. It's got buttons on the shoulder and kind of swoops to one side. Maybe black leggings and boots? That kind of thing?

I saw Naomi Campbell wearing one. Note to self: you are not Naomi Campbell.

Note to self: you are not Naomi Campbell.

Surely she epitomises ‘sophisticated middle aged woman’? If it’s good enough for her … Grin

I tried one on and my husband asked me what I was doing with an old blanket around my shoulders!

I think you need to be tall and slim and I am neither - I looked small and very dumpy.

I Googled "how to style a tweed poncho" and the results were not amazing.

Well, I am wearing one but I do fit the category of eccentric middle aged women so….

In my defence, I call it a cape not a poncho. Or does that just make it worse?

I have one from Topshop that I bought in about 2006. I don't wear it every year but I do love it. It's all in your attitude.

MonikerBing · 01/09/2023 12:12

Maybe it's something that Claudia Winkleman would wear? She looks good in tweed/black leggings/fingerless glove type of look

(I don't have a cape fwiw).

You need some fairfax and favor boots to wear with it.
