What do mums wear for graduations?

My lovely DD graduates in October and I'm unsure what to wear for the ceremony. I've got a nice dress I wore for a black tie do at work last year but I'm thinking that may be a bit OTT. Or I could go for my default smart option of leather leggings and blazer but maybe that's too casual?

Has anyone else been to a graduation this year and if so what did you wear?

If it helps I'm 50, 5'2, not particularly thin and dont really do dressing up!

I attended a graduation this summer. I was surprised at how dressed up everyone was actually- men in suits and women in nice dresses- think summer wedding. Phase Eight etc. My OH was definitely underdressed!

I didn't mention jeans.

No, but you (or whoever) said dress like for a daytime restaurant meal with people you want to impress and I was pointing out that for many people any daytime meal might mean jeans and a nice top and that would be underdressed for a graduation.

I've always worn a smart dress for my own and my DC's graduations.

You can't go wrong! I picked up a beautiful Ribkoff dress for DC2's graduation in their summer sale the year before I needed it! Loved it.

I think @WhoppingBigBackside has nailed it.
I attended my daughter’s in July. Phase eight dress (bargain off Vinted) plain navy jacket. Felt about right. Was in a cathedral. I don’t think leather leggings are right for the occasion even if the dress code is widely interpreted. It’s a long day with lots of hanging around.
Have a lovely day

Thanks @Thriftnugget , I remember feeling proud that my parents looked nice.

My DS2 graduated with a masters 2 years ago
It was a beautiful hot day and am not really a dress person
I wore a lightweight cotton floral swing dress and flat white mary Janes( I'm disabled and can't wear sandals)
I'd say wear whatever you'd wear to meet friends for lunch, not overdressed but nothing too revealing
Wear comfortable footwear as we went elsewhere for photos
Enjoy every moment

I wore a flowery Boden dress, mid length and linen.
It was honestly one of the best days of my life.
It was in April last year and I still get emotional thinking about it!

Depends on your friends! I'd wear jeans for a lunch with friends, but graduations are much dressier than that.
