How do I know when my mascara is used up?

I never know how long a mascara tube should last. You know when it gets to that point when it's not going on as smoothly as it did, and your lashes don't look as luscious, but you get the feeling there's more in the tube and you want to get your money's worth? So how long should a tube last, if it's applied every day??

if it's no longer going on smoothly, however much you think there is left it's time for a new one

they dry put fast, esp if opened every day

I reckon about 3 months tops, used everyday. They are full of bacteria by then anyway.
