Looking to get DNephew’s below shoulder length hair cut - his parents are looking to get it done. In SE London area, Crystal Palace/Sydenham. Or Dulwich as my parents live in West Dulwich. One salon has quoted £40! He now wants it quite short.

My regular salon isn’t open and they do children’s hair but not on a regular basis.

Is this expensive?

My ds has longish hair and it costs £12 to get him a dry cut at my hairdresser

WorseDecision · 26/08/2023 17:59

Costs £10 for my boys each, take him to. Turkish barber!

avocadotofu · 26/08/2023 18:00

We live in SE London (Blackheath) too and we pay £20 for DS4.

BoohooWoohoo · 26/08/2023 18:02

Have you tried a barber's?
My son is a teen and it cost £20 for a hair cut.

golddustwomen · 26/08/2023 18:08

How short does he want it?
My son has it quite short w/ a fade and it's £14 in our local Turkish barbers.

YourNameGoesHere · 26/08/2023 18:10

£40 is a heck of a lot it's approximately £8-£12 here. Take him to a barbers rather than a salon.

AvengedQuince · 26/08/2023 18:11

Just take him to a barber? Mine costs £16 and there are plenty cheaper around.

dementedpixie · 26/08/2023 18:14

I stopped taking ds to the barber as they always wanted to chop all his hair off and he wanted to keep in long. He goes to my hairdresser now.

If your ds wants it short then a barber might suit better.

LittleBearPad · 26/08/2023 18:17

Headmasters was about £15 or so last time I took DS. Also London

Not my DS!

His parents took him to a hairdresser don’t think a barber where they live in Hackney and they apparently messed up his hair.

He definitely wants it short, he’s 5 and it’s long, hskf way down his back but he won’t let it be tied back and to wash and dry it and even brush it is a real performance! Plus his mum is having a second baby in October so would appreciate less fuss over his hair.

I’ll ask at a local Turkish barbers.

He says short which I’m guessing is ear length. Basically similar length to his best friends at school. Not a buzz or crew cut or anything!

My GS's go to local Turkish barber. £10. Midlands. No way would I pay £40 for 5 year old. That's more than I pay for a wash, cut and blow dry

sunshineandshowers40 · 26/08/2023 18:26

£40 is ridiculous for a 5 year old. My DS (early teen) has long hair and I pay £20-25 at a salon (in the SE) for a wash and cut.

ForeverYellow · 26/08/2023 18:27

£12 here in the South East.

YourNameGoesHere · 26/08/2023 18:28

I don't even live in London and I dispute the fact there is no barbershops in Hackney? If it's anything like the rest of the high streets up and down the country the only shops left are barbers, hairdressers, nail shops and vape places.

gogomoto · 26/08/2023 18:31

Loads of barbers on the a107 in Hackney

There are barber shops in Hackney but from what his mum told me either a hairdresser or barbers messed up his hair when it was cut last time, I don’t know which it was!

I’m going to try my old hairdressers or my new. My old ones definitely did say they’d cut boys hair. My new salon they all have kids themselves and have said they’d be good with him so I’ll try them too. Reason for it being south of the river too is DB works in film/tv and is off work until first week of September so he has more time to take his son to get his hair cut.

10-15 for a faux hawk type thing (boys haircuts are not my forte) in a barber shop in my Sussex town, but my hairdresser is the same price for kids as adults - 40 for a wet cut and finish. Something to look forward to when dd actually grows some hair 🤣 what do people do about little girl hair trims out of interest? Barber? Or pay adult prices?!

dementedpixie · 26/08/2023 19:35

I've never paid adult prices for dd and she just got dry cuts into her teens. I cut her hair now as its long and I can cut it fairly straight and can do fringes too.
