What would you wear on your feet?

I have precisely one pair of shoes that are slightly smart and they are navy. I don't currently own any suitable navy clothes.

I have flat sandals, birkies or white trainers 😂

Would you show your toes in sandals?
Say fuck it and wear trainers?

For info I am not remotely important and am just filling a space as it were, cheering on the students.

I will be wearing a black gown which will mainly hide my clothes but there is "mingling" after which I think will be sans robe.

I have a nasty feeling I may have to join the procession however so there is a chance people will see my feet 😂

Ps. I always wear a below-knee dress with button down front and low heels apart from the year when I was pregnant and I wore a dress and ballet flats.

Okay, it's looking to mess though I need to find an outfit to match my navy shoes 😂

And by the sound of it, one with long sleeves, otherwise I'll need to add a long sleeve cardigan to whatever I'm wearing.

I've been searching for a cotton/linen long sleeved navy shirt dress, ideally in a 10 petite, have not seen anything I like. Budget max £30 so ideally something lovely in the sale!

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a cheap pair of flat black shoes to match the outfits you have? You might get more future use out of flat, but dressy, black shoes than an outfit in a colour you don't usually wear?

I know, I could buy some black shoes and wear my linen trousers, I've looked at so many dresses and shoes in the last couple of days that my head is spinning. I don't know why but I don't feel comfortable in ballet flats but I don't know what else to look for 🤦🏻‍♀️

I would take advice from your colleagues. There's a world of difference between universities and different faculties in the same university.

This but I've been to 4 different graduations at different Universities in recent years (plus others back in the day) and I've never seen anyone in trainers. I think it would be really apparent too, as everyone is sitting there looking at you for a couple of hours or more, often with the people on the platform / stage's feet right in your eyeline.

I do think it is worth investing in some "proper shoes" for just such occasions. I mean, what do you wear to funerals ?

Funerals? Well I wore the navy shoes 🤷🏻‍♀️ it was a don't wear black funeral. But I don't go to very many luckily.

I'm already well past the trainers stage, after advice on this thread.
