Are you a minimalist in a specific beauty category?

I love lots of lip and eyeshadow options but only own one bronzer, one blush and two nail colours (red and nudey white). What have you stripped to minimum options in your make up kit?

I am a beauty hoarder of absolutely everything imaginable except shampoo. I only ever have one on the go and Im lucky if I find one in my stash! I have no idea why, as it is something we all use! As opposed to the 30 odd lipsticks that I wear only five of, the 11 body lotions that I only apply once a month at the moment, the face masks that I haven’t used for well over a month etc.

I have a small tupperware that contains my makeup. It goes off before I can use it so now I just have one of anything on the go

I have 4 lipsticks but only because Clinique gives free samples when I buy skin care products. I might have eye shadows somewhere which I never wear. I have one bottle of nail varnish which was also a Clinique freeby which I never use.

I've never owned a blusher or a bronzer.

Skin care. I only use Tret and ordinary Simple moisturiser and face wash. Never happier.
But then I also don't use foundation, bronzer, blush, nail colour or eyeshadow.

mdinbc · 25/08/2023 19:44

No bronzer or blush for me; somehow I never got the hang of it, and it feels very fake. If I have a compact pallet, that's the thing that doesn't get used.

I have plenty of eyeliners and lipsticks! I currently like the Sephora fat crayons eye shadow, very similar to Clinique chubby sticks.

And I always go back to the same mascara; L'Oreal telescopic. I don't really bother to try anything else now.

Mascara. I do have a few, but the Clinique whatever one is the only one I’d buy / use. Don’t even know where the others came from… Everything else, I love buying (but never using!)

KirstenBlest · 25/08/2023 20:16

I'm a hoarder but only wear the minimum necessary to not frighten people

FinnRustle · 25/08/2023 20:17

Blush. It only does one thing and I like a natural look, so I just need the one (Hourglass stick).

This, but I hardly ever wear mascara and don't like Clinique or EL mascara

dreamydandelion · 25/08/2023 20:18

skincare. i make my own toner from just glycerine plus rosewater which I pat on my face then use pure rosehip seed oil as my moisturiser on top of the toner. works great! and super cheap.

Precipice · 25/08/2023 20:23

I don't wear make-up at all. I still own a little that I used to use. I never used mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, bronzer or blush, but I had and still possess a liquid foundation, a powder foundation, a concealer, a setting powder, and a lipstick. Compared to most make-up wearers, I was still a minimalist in every category.

I have a few moisturising creams and face cleansers.

olivehaters · 25/08/2023 20:28

Skin care obsessive. Have everything under the sun.

loads of blushers, highlighters. Loads of variations of eyeliners and a few eyeshadows.
One mascara on the go. Normally a freebie.
One lippy and one lip colour balm that I rarely wear. I don't get lipstick. I feel like a clown with it on. I hate that it rubs off loads and goes messy looking. I am generally eating or drinking when I go out so don't think its worth the bother.
Think lippy looks horrid and artificial on most people to be honest.

I always loved lipstick, and have loads. It’s something I’ll spend more on. But, I’m not as confident about my smile now I’m older & my teeth need a bit of work. So, I don’t wear it much anymore. I remember reading something about red lipstick on older women in a book called “In Your Prime” by India Knight. I read it ten years ago… But it only applies to me now!

Love make up but especially since lockdown, am loyal to Guerlain's Mad Eyes mascara in black. It does exactly what I want it to and doesn't budge all day. Laura Mercier's Caviar Eye Stick in Amethyst, I love that I can just scribble it on and it looks good and again, doesn't budge. The only lipstick I've bought myself over the last several years is Glossier's Generation G in Crush. I buy a few on Black Friday to last me the year - one in my mini on the go make up bag, one in my bathroom make up kit, one in my office. It's my perfect colour - I would love to find one with a ~little~ bit of a creamier/glossier finish, though.
