Hi all,

off the back of my last thread ‘Why is everything such shit quality’, I have decided to not shop for an entire month. I’m hoping to go further than that but a month will be a good challenge to start with.

I am totally fed with up buying shite quality stuff. I want to fall back in love with the wardrobe a bit more because it’s full of lovely, great quality things that I have gotten bored with.

essentially, I have been wasting money and time on said shitty quality clothing and want to reset a bit. Unfortunately shopping has become a bit of a stress relief for me (I do a lot online).

so instead of shopping for shite, I want to shop all the good stuff I’m lucky to have sitting in my wardrobe.

does anyone want to join in a no shop month with me?

I’m in!

I think I also shop (online) as a way to de-stress, so it would be good to reset.

Yes I've been thinking about this this morning so I'll join you.
Definitely need to reset & shop my own wardrobe for a bit

Is it just clothes you aren't buying? I'm dieting so no point buying for now sbd have quite a lot of stuff sitting around that's a bit small. Also the summer has been incredibly expensive!! So I'm in

did my finances this am and I’m really happy with the amount I can save if I don’t buy anything.

I have to say, having it written down is more motivating. I’d rather be saving than spending money on shite clothes when it’s put like this!

Anyone else want to join ?

I put a jumper back on the rack today and bought a blouse from Uniqlo instead .

I don't wear wool so I really need to look at cotton/viscose jumpers and not be tempted by jumpers that look nice but will ultimately go baggy or pilled - or are just boxy and wide to start with Hmm

My favourite is a White Stuff cotton one , I;m on the look out for another - that's the only thing on my list really .

this was my first step! I was out the other day and I was picking things up that I liked. Instead of going to the tills and paying, I actually gave myself 5 mins to really feel all the fabrics, look at the details (buttons etc) and decided it was all shit (pretty, but shit) and I walked out the shop.

I felt so good. Normally I could always justify it but I’m really trying to only shop what I need (which is absolutely nothing).

I normally see something instore and unless it reallly grabs me I go home and order it online .
Or if I see it online I want to see in instore .
So giving myself the breathing space .

My DD wanted a blouse for work and Uniqlo are nice quality . So we bought one each ( different colours )

Love this. I’ve started shopping only on Vestiaire Collective, and favourite things specifically so I can let them sit for a few days and revisit - do I still like them? If they sell in the meantime, so be it. But in the meantime I still get to scroll and get that “thrill of the bargain chase” feeling.

Having less stuff is so much better. I’m not great at the “one in, one out” rule so it’s really helpful to severely restrict what makes it past my front door.

But I was so enjoying your other thread!

I’d say September is precisely the wrong month for me to not buy anything - new weather, la rentrée, and all that - but it’s highly likely that after October I might not buy anything for myself until next Spring.

You might find this Instagram account in tune with your aims. (Stumbled upon this morning via an FT article on toxic waste in the fashion industry.) Journalist / novelist doing ‘the rule of five’.

I need to do a no buy year. I think I have an issue with buying things I Dont need or don’t fit or I just won’t wear. I’m size probably 18 and I have a tonne of lovely exercise wear - sweaty Betty lulu lemon etc nice shoes and wardrobes full I don’t wear because I feel stupid or it doesn’t fit. If I don’t buy I could save a fortune I can also sell some stuff I won’t wear.
so yes I will be joining in no buy month and hopefully continue on from there so I can save up another thing I’m crap at
