Warm, short coats - or help me not buy this £745 biker jacket

I'm looking for an alternative to down jackets - something waist/hip length, but warm. I like this sheepskin biker but it's quite expensive... https://www.celticandco.com/womens/womens-outerwear/sheepskin-jackets/sheepskin-biker-jacket?colourid=59

Any suggestions? I don't mind down jackets if they're a bit smarter and don't look like walking gear, iyswim.

Sheepskin Biker Jacket

Expertly balancing femininity with a touch of the rugged, our sheepskin biker jacket is a direct hit on country style with a light metro influence.

I had one almost identical to that one and it was suffocating my hot and I'm not even a warm person!

I gave it to my step daughter and I believe she passed it on for the same reason!

GreenOli · 24/08/2023 16:12

Oh, interesting! Was it very heavy too?

The weight was heavy but not a problem. Shearling is just incredibly warm!

Valerie23 · 24/08/2023 16:15

A cropped or short wool blazer is warm but not suffocating as it's breathable.

I actually don't find wool warm enough. Maybe I need shearling after all! It's to replace a depths-of-winter down jacket.

Try looking for a shearling jacket on Vestiaire collective or vinted - good ones age well and you'll spend less than £745!

Soontobe60 · 24/08/2023 16:29

In the depths of winter, a short jacket of any type will not keep you warm!

I have a long winter coat already.

I bought this last year in the burgundy and everytime I wear it I get a compliment. Flattering, good cut, excellent price (Romans always have a money off code somewhere) and very warm. Depending on your size very like the one pictured above and somewhat cheaper, albeit faux https://www.roman.co.uk/faux-fur-lined-zip-detail-aviator-jacket-12010308

That is gorgeous, and a bargain !

I think the Celtic and Co jacket is lovely and I can understand why you want it. It's the sort of thing that would last you for years. I would be a bit worried by what other people have said about shearling being too hot, but you could always try it and send it back if you find it too warm.

GreenOli · 25/08/2023 09:40

Thanks for all these suggestions. & Other Stories has some lovely coats. Still tempted to try the Celtic & Co one if I can't find anything second hand... Kind of an insane price, but would hopefully last forever. Hmm.

Try searching for Aviator and Biker Jackets - the style is more Aviator given the lining, but the two terms do get confused

Voodoochile · 25/08/2023 10:55

if you really fancy shearling (I don’t find mine too hot but only wear in the depths of winter), try BrandAlley. They regularly have shearling sales and if you are a first time buyer you can get a discount for registering.

It's worth looking in TKMaxx. I bought a Massimo Dutti flying jacket in there last year for about £100. I also bought a DKNY leather jacket for the same price and just missed out on a beautiful Hobbs coat that i'm still kicking myself about.

This is gorgeous. The burgundy is only £45 but sadly not many sizes.

Physicstruck · 25/08/2023 17:30

Well just to say I found a Celtic and co shearling coat second hand , (for twenty quid, charity shop) , and it was that fabulous that if i’d have spent the £795 i’d have still totally got my money’s worth and not regretted it once .I wore it for years and years and gave it away in the end. I regret doing so massively😃.

SarahC50 · 25/08/2023 17:36

@GreenOli I think the jacket is beautiful. If you can afford it definitely buy it. Every time you wear it you will feel special and its lovely and stylish. I say go for it!!!

GreenOli · 25/08/2023 18:53

Wow, so lucky! I've been trawling Vinted and eBay etc and watching a few but nothing I like quite as much as the Celtic and Co one. And they're all still a couple of hundred quid.
