Flattering way to dress wide hips?

I've lost a lot of weight recently, but unfortunately I have wide hip bones and I don't think any more dieting will change that! Now that I'm more comfortable to ditch the baggy t-shirts, what sort of things should I buy to dress my shape nicely? I still feel really fat because of how my middle section looks, though I do plan to lose one more stone and work on the mum-tum. I've never been into clothes really, but I want to smarten up now! I've tried tucking my t-shirts in, but that seems to make it look worse. I've found some flattering dresses but I'm more of a top-and-jeans kind of girl really. Advice much appreciated Smile

In that photo your hips appear to be the same width as you shoulders - ie not wide. Nothing that needs any special effort in dressing!

Those aren’t wide hips but entirely in proportion with your waist and shoulders. I was expecting to see someone with an exaggerated pear shape TBH

you could try some fitted/tailored tops if your not happy with tight. You look great though

Finish your tops at a shorter length- at the minute you're finishing across your hips, which gives you a great big arrow saying 'look.at this point'.
Your t-shirts don't have to be short, they can be tucked in, if you even tuck in loosely and add a belt at your narrowest point, it will accentuate it.
Rough idea in the picture below

You have a gorgeous figure with a beautiful defined waist.

anon2022anon is right. Avoid tops pulled down around your hips if you want to conceal them.
pity you don’t like dresses though, as they would really suit your shape and are such an easy way to look stylish and pulled together with zero effort.

I’m a pear-shaped size 12 and I go for shorter and more fitted tops, with wide leg or slightly flared jeans/trousers, which seem to balance things out - try some on and see if that gives you the shape you want (although I agree your hips don’t look particularly wide!) An a-line or similar dress with a defined waist would suit you too.

Tuck your top in , pulling it down like that is not flattering and makes your body look too long .

indyocean · 23/08/2023 20:18

You are an hour glass, not a pear

The perfect shape
