Does my perfect winter coat exist?

I couldn't find it last year so stuck with my old one. My perfect coat is:
Wool or wool look
Knee length ish
Hooded
No belt
No toggles
Probably no zip
Not too fitted around the middle
Patch pockets a bonus
Not black
Under £100 (can be second hand)
If you see it, please could you let me know 😁

The 3rd of these links is closest but I'm not keen on the collar/hood combo. I think I'm just too fussy 🙄

I am also fussy which is why like @TheCountessofFitzdotterel I started sewing my own coats.

There's quite a few coat patterns that would, or could meet your brief and you could have them made in whichever fabric you wanted!

cantstaymadatyou · 22/08/2023 20:24

Just stick one of these on and no need for a hood. I’m sad that these seem to no longer be used by old ladies.

Pea coat? I'm looking for one so if anyone knows.....

I think you are going to have to up your budget. There is a nice wool parka at John Lewis for double the amount.

This type of coat won't go out of style for many years, so the extra price may be worth it. I personally would rather spend more than go second hand.

I bought a beautiful beige wool Aquascutum coat for £80 from a charity store. They are often on ebay too.

Ticks all your boxes apart from it has no hood

Lovely shape, but unlined and no pockets?

The last one does look interesting but looks like it has a zip. I'm looking for something more classic looking I think, and less of a duffle/parker style

Just looked on eBay and these are right up my street, sadly still a lack of hood though!

Too jacket-y, but thanks for the suggestions!

You can now filter on Vinted by material. It’s not 100% as many people have categorised their ‘feels like wool’ (in their opinion!) coats as wool, but worth a look.

LimeCheesecake · 23/08/2023 10:54

Given your budget is limited and you already have a coat that you are happy with except for the lack of hood - I would aim to spend some time checking out more expensive brands to see if what you want does exist, just more expensive (like the £300 one linked etc). Try to save a bit more then when you find coat that hits your full list (and go try it on in store to be certain), keep a watch on it for January sales, or eBay /vinted next summer.

In the mean time, buy a hat.

I have this one and it's been a favourite for a few winters now. Although it's a duffle (and therefore has toggles) it is a bit more slightly fitted at the waist than duffles usually are, so it's very pretty and flattering.

bluebeardswife7 · 23/08/2023 23:14

No, the perfect coat doesn't exist. In my family we have portmanteau'd hunting for the perfect coat to cunting. Spoiler, it doesn't exist.

bluebeardswife7 · 23/08/2023 23:19

You don't expect any other item of clothing to do everything. That's why you have 10 pairs of shoes. Even though I know this every coat is a disappointment by December. I hate every coat I ever owned with a fiery passion

tunainatin · 24/08/2023 07:27

Thanks for all suggestions, ordered something from vinted that I'm not 100% about but it's not expensive so worth the gamble!
