How to style pleated skirt in winter with a coat?

I absolutely adore my green floaty midi skirt from M&S and wear it with a short denim or leather jacket on a cool day. For winter, it may have to go into hibernation due to colour but it’s so versatile that I am considering buying another, in a more winter colour like the one below. The light texture is OK as you can put tights and boots, but what do you wear on the top coat wise? It comes to low calf length on me.

Either short coat or long coat. Anything in between looks odd. I do a long wool belted coat with mine

Any coat needs to be longer than the skirt, or stop at mid thigh.

What style shirt coat, so it warm? I can only think of fur lined aviator?

I'd be looking for a thigh-length wrapover jacket with a tie belt. If it were wool and lined, you could wear it over almost any trousers, skirts and dresses. It's all about the right proportions for your height and shape.

That's a good answer. I can see exactly what you're getting at.

@EffortlessDesmond You have nailed it, I have seen one recently that would be perfect. Will trail through my history- thank you!

Thank you! I had one in my teens, in the 1970s, and it just works with the silhouette. Good luck tracking down the perfect item, in the right weight and colour. Depending on your budget I'd look at Max Mara -- it's a style they often do, but the High Street can come up trumps. I think mine was Country Casuals, before it lost its way.
