When product rolls off skin in a little ball..

You know when that happens - does it mean the stuff is no good?

I got some Estee Lauder from QVC. Last night I used Advanced Night Repair serum and Supreme creme after, as instructed. This morning I have the rolly ball thing. Perhaps it's too much?

thank you.

I've had this when the serum hasn't had sufficient time to absorb into the skin before moisturiser.

PARunnerGirl · 16/08/2023 07:32

So annoying! It’s called “pilling”. It doesn’t mean it’s no good but it isn’t absorbing for some reason. Sometimes this can be the order of products onto your skin (go thinnest to thickest)but the most common reason is that your skin needs exfoliated or cleansed prior to using that product

Daffodil77 · 16/08/2023 07:33

It means that the silicones in one or two products are stopping them from mixing and absorbing on to your skin. It's called pilling.

It doesn't mean that they aren't any good, just that the combination of those products might not be right for you.

EmmaEmerald · 16/08/2023 07:37

Thanks
my skin is well exfoliated

I thought the serum seemed enough on its own.

I'll try the creme alone and see what happens. Anyone else use Advanced Night Repair and then a moisturiser on top?

I might have had a little ageing panic 😂 and saw that set on QVC, maybe it's too much or I should use the stuff separately, but I have ages before I send it back if need be.

As @Daffodil77 says, it's silicone. There's no silicone afaik in ANR, so it's whatever else you're using.

I had used the EL Perfectly Clean Face Wash first and wasn't wearing any makeup before I washed my face. So maybe something else pills or they do have silicone in there, or something close to it

I get this when I've used too much of a product 😀

PlatinumBrunette · 16/08/2023 12:46

It happens when there’s a mismatch between two or more products. Think of it like curdling (sorry!). Just a chemical reaction with each others ingredients. It’s not your skin.

TheFlis12345 · 16/08/2023 12:52

I get this with the ANR range if I use too much, you need to apply sparingly and really let it sink in before you add the next product.

ribbonbelle · 16/08/2023 13:41

Yes, it could be a mismatch of products, but when layering you need to leave time between products for them to sink in before applying the next. You can even buy little fans (an ordinary fan will do) to speed the process.

TheOGCCL · 16/08/2023 17:25

Seems a bit weird if those products are sold in a kit to be used together but agree it's products not playing nicely together.

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 16/08/2023 17:26

Hyaluronic acid based products can make other things pill as well, and ANR is HA based.

EmmaEmerald · 16/08/2023 17:47

I'll try separating them out. The ANR did feel like moisturiser wasn't necessary.

Products that contain micro plastics do pill on the skin, I always find.

And no, micro plastic beads are NOT banned in cosmetics as some seem to believe, they were only banned in products designed to wash off immediately, such as scrubs. All foundations and tinted moisturisers, for instance, contain plastics - they're what give the tint. If you see anything ending in -ethylene that's a micro plastic FYI. 🙁

IndianSummer78 · 17/08/2023 16:22

I use advance night repair then oil then moisturizer. No pilling. As others have said leave a little time between applications and use sparingly. Serums aren't supposed to be used in the same quantity as moisturizer creams. If you don't feel you need the moisturizer afterwards then you probably don't, I've heard of that before, the ANR is a very good serum

Thanks for the microplastics info allswell I didn't know that

TheChosenTwo · 17/08/2023 16:24

You’ve just reminded me that i used to love ANR! I might pick up a bottle this week, I’m going on holiday next week and this might just be the thing I need to help my skin survive!
I hate the pilling situation, I get it lots and I can never pin point which one the problem is.

JaneJeffer · 18/08/2023 00:17

This happens to me with Lancôme stuff. I can't use it!

Wakintoblueskies · 18/08/2023 00:30

This happens to me with Trinny London serum. I use it on its own at night so it isn't because it hasn't absorbed/was applied in the wrong order.

I will finish it but won't be rebuying.

HappiDaze · 18/08/2023 00:49

It's called pilling

It's when the products are incompatible

Ie one is WATER based and the other SILICONE or OIL based
