Registry office wedding - what would you wear?

I’m looking for some major inspiration here and have absolutely no idea where to start or what I want 🙈

Basically…I’m getting married in the spring. Nothing big or fancy, just a very small registry office wedding with a meal afterwards. It’s only just dawned on me that I need to pick “the dress” 🤣 (or any other outfit tbh - I’m not set on dress!).

Can I ask all you lovely mumsnetters for some inspiration 😊 what would you wear? And if you have time for a browse - what would you wear if you were me? Size 22, 5’6ish, 38GG bust, apple shape, medium brown hair and pretty pale skin.

Budget fairly flexible. I’m not about to spend thousand but happy to have a small splurge if it’s on something that makes me feel nice 😊

I'd choose something wonderful I could wear again even if it's 'only' for anniversaries etc. Pick one of your favourite bright colours - this green in fab

That green bombshell dress is gorgeous!

Bumblebee112 · 14/08/2023 22:56

Loving seeing all the suggestions 😊

@bingohandjob I definitely would love it to be something I could wear again for anniversaries etc 😊

I would ignore anything marketed as "wedding" in any capacity.

I would look at sites like Matches, MyTheresa, Coggles, Liberty or Erdem and just buy the dress I liked best.

We actually gave our notice today at the register office & I asked the woman if it's silly if I wear a wedding dress (short 1950's style) and she said god no it's your day where want you want. She said she sees people coming in wearing absolutely anything as everything goes from wedding dresses to jeans a shirt lol

I got married in December, registry office, small wedding, went home after for a little buffet. I wore wedding dress, £20 from shein 😂

Bumblebee112 · 15/08/2023 05:46

@NatashaDancing Thank you for the site recommendations 😊 I’ll have a good browse at those! Definitely haven’t bothered with anything marketed as “wedding” 😅

@bejewelled13 Congrats!! When’s the big day? Sounds perfect 😊

@JayyEmmBee Sounds like a perfect day 😊 dress sounds like a bargain! 👏🏼

I really like this. Special but not OTT

I love Cabbages and Roses dresses Cabbages and Roses

Not a fan of Bombshell - that brand gets punted endlessly on here, along with Nancy Mac. There's something terribly "obvious" about them.

I always really liked Bianca Jagger’s wedding outfit. I’d probably try to emulate that.

bejewelled13 · 15/08/2023 09:23

@Bumblebee112 it's October 13th, when's yours? Not long now!

TeacheeTeacherson · 15/08/2023 09:40

When I had a small registry office wedding, I wore a floor length blush pink dress from Ghost, it felt special and weddingy without being a wedding dress. I would suggest looking at bridesmaids dresses, eg from places like oasis to find something you like. They often have a few different styles in a few different colours so you could hopefully find something you like, and if you are having bridesmaids they could either match your colour or your style if you wanted. So it looks put together but not try hard.

As in, it's obviously a dress?

Nochoiceleft · 15/08/2023 10:15

I’m doing the same in May next year 😄 Watching your thread for ideas.

cantstaymadatyou · 15/08/2023 11:30

I’d wear something from Needle & Thread. How often do you get a chance to be flouncy? I’d buy from Vinted though because I’m a bargain hunter!

My wedding dress was £20 too but I got it in the BHS sale. Poor old BHS. It looks like Debenhams online still do a range of high street style dresses if you decide to go that route: https://www.debenhams.com/category/womens-dresses-wedding

BarrelOfOtters · 15/08/2023 11:34

I wore a wedding dress. Figured it was my one chance! It wasn't a particularly flouncy one - but I like to see a proper bridal grown....

Dixiechickonhols · 15/08/2023 11:44

I’d choose something in a style you normally wear.
I had a civil ceremony and chose a top and fitted skirt in ivory silk from monsoon. I’m not a frilly flouncy type and 20 yrs later I can see that style I chose was something similar to what I wore a lot just much nicer fabric. I was very happy and comfortable in my choice, felt like me.
Phase 8 or coast always have nice outfits.

There's just something tries too hard about them. I'm not sure why I don't like them as I like 1950s dresses and in theory I should like them, but I don't. I think it's because they look fake- they're not real 1950s dresses but on the other hand they don't use any new ideas which other 1950s inspired designers use.l

I love Needle and Thread. Love them!! (But nowhere to wear one yet).
I disagree about the Bombshell dresses - it's just a question of personal style but I don't think their model is great so I get what you mean by obvious.
They look different on a normal woman with different shoes, hair and in a normal setting. (As do all the dresses!)
