Re-learning to wear heels - I have a week?

When I was younger I was never great in strappy sandal type heels but could manage a block heel if the shoe was securely attached to my foot, but I haven't worn heels at all for about 6 years.

I have fallen in love with some 3" block heeled Mary Janes that I think will go perfectly with a dress I already have for afternoon tea at The Ritz in a couple of weeks.

They were £16 in the sale so I have ordered them. If I can get my feet to shape to a heel (not sure they will as have a bit of Hallux Rigidus [stiff toe]) then I'll have a week to learn to walk in them.

I won't have to walk far...but I will still need to be able to walk a little bit without falling over or looking like a baby giraffe taking their tentative first steps....

What a ridiculous statement 🙄

Has it ever occurred to you that some people find it difficult to wear heels?!

Good luck OP. I am also crap at wearing heels. I reckon you can do it with regular practice over the week.

@Otins do you have tik tok op, I recently watch videos from a girl who teaches people to walk in heels. She says to practice by walking on your tiptoes in the house on bare feet which can help strengthen your ankles and she shows you how to actually walk in heels.

I don't have TikTok but that is a good idea. Thank you. I'll try YouTube first though so I may not need to sign up for another time wasting app.

Put them on (in the house), and keep them on. Practice makes perfect. Enjoy, they are lovely.

I would "just wear them" if I could, believe me. Last time I put heels on I couldn't even stand up straight as my knees were bent forward to compensate.

But thanks for your help.

No tips but those are great! Enjoy the Ritz

I'd wear them round the house for a few hours each day. If you have carpets it's a cushioned way to get used to them anc your feet will get used to the shape

Lovely shoes! Wear them around the house every day in the run up to the afternoon tea.
