Need a whole new sock wardrobe - anyone done this?

Possibly the least exciting article of clothing, I will not be offended if no one is interested!

I have a huge basket of socks and wear just a few pairs, and I don't like them much. Seems a good place to start a wardrobe overhaul.

So, what do I need?
Boot/welly socks for daily dog walking of several miles - what's best? Fluffy? Wool? Something technical?
Trainers - I mainly wear trousers and jeans. What material? Any suggested style?
Boots in winter - usually Chelsea or DMs, need something in between the welly sock and the trainer sock?

I do dark laundry twice a week so max of 4 of each should do it.

Does anyone love their socks enough to give them a mention?

I like Seasalt socks. I always stock up in the sale.

Off to look 👍

They don't leave lint everywhere do they? DH socks are bloody awful!

The primark trainer socks are the best - the ones made of sort of netting (but not).

SquirrelBlue · 09/08/2023 22:43

I've got white trainer socks and black ankle socks so I can grab them easily depending on which style I want on the day. And about 2 pairs of thick socks for wellies etc.
I'd wear the black ones for Chelsea boots etc and generally most of winter, and the white ones most of the warmer months

I love Corrymoor socks, gentle top for boots and swift trainer socks www.corrymoor.com

kirkland merino wool socks are my absolute everyday for autumn winter & would fit the bill for “in between regular socks & welly socks”.

I wear them all the time because I am a reptile have Raynauds and my feet are too cold in regular socks.

Good socks are wonderful. Really, really worth spending money on.

For walking I like the most expensive Bridgedale pure wool socks with lovely soft tops.

For brightening up my life I like the odd pair of Socksmiths or I also buy Art Socks at museums.

For day to day I like a multi pack of Kangol black socks, they are roomy and last a decent length of time.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 09/08/2023 22:47

For me I got Anyday pastel stripe socks and also white sporty striped socks from New Look. I also have ecru and navy floral socks and some black, white and beige ones with a scalloped edge from M&S.

I did have thicker socks with stripes from Zara but didn’t use these as much.

Trainer socks if running black ones with very fine stripe from Next. Fashion see above but also Primark rubber lace sockette things.

Thermals for Boots really, M&S and Sainsburys do good ones.

My mum loves Seasalt thick socks and the bamboo coloured ones eg with ladybirds or cats on.

BigBundleOfFluff · 09/08/2023 22:47

If you are dumping them all, buy several sets all exactly the same so you never have to sort your socks again!
Apart from special welly ones etc that are easy to pair.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 09/08/2023 22:51

I think Selected Femme or Second Female do nuce socks too have had pretty glitter which were also thermal but not thick.

For me a good sock needs to be warm in winter but also cool in summer.

I forgot I got a load of black colour glitter trim ones from H&M a few years ago. They’re v comfy and just on the right side of cool and warm.

Wow, so much love for socks. I'm going to take my time and check them all out

Except the Kirkland socks from @ladyinthecampervan which are a definite. I used to live in these but they stopped stocking them in our Costco. I am so happy to see them, thank you.

Posted too soon! Was trying to say bamboo socks from thought clothing are fabulous!

Seasalt.

summerdressing · 10/08/2023 08:32

I don't rate seasalt socks at all, mine all ripped and cost a fortune.

RuffledKestrel · 10/08/2023 08:44

I done this a few years ago. Replacing them all with various types of bamboo socks from the Sock Shop.
Encasing your feet in soft bamboo is fantastic, summer and winter.

efeslight · 10/08/2023 08:53

I too am a sock Fan and have a few favourite pairs, which i want to buy more of, but then struggle to remember where I bought them from. No label!
I have socks for wearing around the house in winter, must be warm but not too thick that they won't fit in my slippers.
Have different socks for different shoes, and don't like ones that slip down, but also don't want socks that are too tight round my chubby ankles.
The search for perfection continues so I will check out these links.
I would get rid of all the ones you don't wear and streamline your collection.
Good luck OP.

I just had a minor revamp - realised that I only had alternative (trainer sock/woolly sock) or present socks (ones with patterns or pictures) which I like when wfh but nothing plain. Bought 5 pairs each of brown, black and navy and it has made me so happy!
