I have wiry, very thick hair that rarely looks good. I have zero styling skills. I keep it short. I have tried, without success, for literally years to get a hairdresser who gets what I want. Occasionally, they will do as I ask. Yet without fail, they forget - "Yes, I know what you want" and cut it how they want. I do not go back. I search for another hairdresser.
I have it cut every 5-6 weeks and I give two attempts to see whether they will do as I ask. I am not one of those women who think they will magically turn into said celebrity on pictures but I do show a picture and explain what I want: No parting. As short at the back and sides as possible without a visible line defining where it is longer - graduated. I don't want my fringe swept to one side. I don't want some weird notch cut into my fringe on one side. Please cut my fringe after it is dried as it springs up and won't be all one length. I show them this - https://www.instagram.com/p/CrgAWkGN_dL/
I would not even mind if they said, "your hair won't do that, how about...." Or even "I don't cut short hair - all I can do is dye it and cut it into a one length bob if it's straight". Or even "I don't like the look of you, get out". I can cope with all that but I get affirmation that they can do it.
So yet AGAIN I have returned home with what can only be described as a pyrex bowl haircut. Cunningly glued down at the sides with some revolting substance which, now brushed out, shows what an appalling cut it is. I knew she hadn't listened to a word when she said - after cutting it - "which side do you want your fringe sweeping to?"
What am I doing wrong? I'm polite. I'm chatty. Make all the right noises when they're talking at me. I've paid big bucks at salons and every price point in between. I've even tried a few barbers.
It must be bad as husband has said "That's interesting".
Does anyone know of anywhere in the Manchester area - either the City centre or even one of the surrounding towns - that actually does as you ask? Or at least has the grace to explain why they can't and offer you an alternative before you come out looking like a lost piece of Lego.
And no, thankfully I cannot post a picture of offending haircut to critique/ laugh at.
