Thin hair - to colour or not?

Hi style mavens. I am looking for advice on my thin hair. My hair has become thinner over the last few years - probably due to chronic health issues and medications. I am not looking for advice on vitamins/ supplements - I am limited in what I can take due to the health issues. I did cut my hair into quite a gamine pixie cut a few years ago - it looked thinner and lank when I wore it long or jaw length. However, my hair is dark brown and my scalp is very pale and I feel the thinner areas are accentuated by the contrast (i.e. at the crown and along the parting). I don’t have many greys yet (42) but I was wondering if some chunky caramel/ gold highlights (lowlights?) would take the edge off the contrast and not draw the eye so much. I am wary of bleaching indiscriminately to avoid hair damage. What does everyone think?

It certainly sounds like it would help, it does sound like a slightly longer style would let the hair lie a bit more and you wouldnt see so much scalp.

Dyes are better than they used to be, a one off colour with proper aftercare and always using heat protection will probably make no difference, especially to a shorter style where the hair is generally in better condition.

There are treatments that can make your hair look thicker for a while too. A temporary colour often thickens it as an easy option.

Might be worth speaking to someone about your health with respect to your hair if it is bothering you, ensure you're getting the right nutrition etc.

I hear you! My fine hair shows my shiny pale scalp through terribly! However I have solved this with Superdrug own brand brown dry shampoo! Literally part your hair in a few places and spray! It also helps with a bit of body too, and my hair looks so much better now. No other brand is as good mind,

Thank you both. My health is what it is, unfortunately. I have regular check ups and treatment with various specialties. I think I will speak to the hairdresser in a few weeks and get her thoughts about colour. I will definitely try the brown dry shampoo to try and stop my scalp showing through so much.
