Recommend me way to travel with increased dresses?

I do a bit of travel for work, and generally wear dresses which I laboriously try and roll up to arrive uncreased. Then I mostly need to iron them anyway. Ruined one recently with a terrible hotel iron. I also have dinners for which I need to carry a dress for work and then change, actually more difficult as I have no iron at work.

Recommendations for a garment bag or a suitcase with some kind of built in space for dresses? Ideally that can fit more than one. I saw one somewhere where there was kind of an extra layer that wrapped around the main carry on.

While buying dresses that don't crease would be nice, I have a v v difficult figure for formal wear anyway (JJ) so need to work with what I can find!

As an aside, I have googled and am getting pretty irritated that every single one of these things is modelled by a man in a suit.

Bring a small hand held clothes steamer

CMOTDibbler · 06/08/2023 19:06

I put my dresses in my case ( which has a section in the lid for garments) centered on the long axis of the case, then put other smaller garments in the middle of the dress, then fold the dress over that. Normally no ironing needed at all, but I bought a Tefal Pop travel steamer this year as I fell in love with a linen dress which I would not normally consider for work and that is amazing. The creases just drop out, and can be used on delicates

I do similar - almost looking to roll the dress around the items.

The only other thing I can think of is to hire a travelling clothes rail and wheel it along 😂

Wear tailored trousers and a well styled top. Forget about dresses, they are for weddings and garden parties or a hot summer's day.

However, if you insist (lol) do as pp said, and pack a hand held steamer. Or buy uncrushable fabrics.

I could not be bothered with the faff of a special suitcase TBH.

Might give a clothes steamer a try then. Although it's another thing to pack. Are they good to use at home too instead of an iron?

Ooh yep gosh I never thought about just not wearing dresses even though they suit me best. Tailored trousers never crease, clearly.

In all seriousness it's the same amount of faff packing any suitcase, but it would be helpful to have one suited to my needs. If you don't have anything helpful to say you can just move on.

If anyone does have a recommendation for a suitable case or whatever that would be super helpful, as I need a new suitcase either way.

I know you meant uncreased but I read it as 'increased' and I was trying to think what increased dresses might be? I was thinking gigantic ball dresses? Like for dancing comps 🤣

Cinnamonandcoal · 06/08/2023 22:36

Yep stupid typo!
Inflatable dresses maybe.

I was imagining you travelling wearing all your dresses like Joey wearing all Chandlers clothes!

OP I use something like this which fits into a carry on suitcase.

I find I can pack loads in there and it doesn't crease. The link is coming up for a US website I think but you can buy it in the Uk.
