Maternity clothes but not pregnant

Hi stylish ladies

I’m not sure really where is best to post this…

I am c. 10 weeks postpartum and mostly wearing maternity clothes, particularly on bottom half.

I suppose I’m just wondering whether this is normal/ common thing to do at this stage after birth.

I still have a fair sized bump so my old clothes do not fit. I’m not particularly concerned about my figure per se, it’s more the practicalities how to dress.

Do many women continue wearing maternity clothes several weeks/ months after baby is here? Or is it more usual to fit into your old wardrobe by this stage? Maybe you went out to buy a whole range of interim clothes in the next size up….?

I don’t like the idea of wasting money on ‘interim’ clothes. But also…. I just feel as though they’d look terrible on me in a size big big enough to accommodate the bump.

Any ideas…?

Totally normal to be doing this! I wouldn't waste money and effort on an interim wardrobe as you're still early pp. Wait until your body shape has stabilised and then treat yourself as you may find you don't quite go back to your previous shape 🙂

Absolutely normal. My bump took ages to go down and my maternity clothes fit and were comfy. I just waited until I could fit back into my old clothes.

Normal.

mind you, I have a friend who still wears her maternity tshirts and her son is 5!!!! Definitely getting her money’s worth!!!

Thanks to those who replied, particularly as I posted during an early-hours night feed!

I suppose I’m just struggling a bit for what to wear for two reasons
1- I don’t have a lot that actually does fit (even maternity wear) and I just keep wearing the same few outfits every week.
2- as my bump does slowly get smaller I’m finding the maternity jeans/ trousers are not staying up. So I’m sort of between sizes right now.

I think I do need to buy more but I don’t really know where to start. Maybe I’ve lost myself (my personal style) a bit since becoming mum.

thanks again everyone- very reassuring and kind replies :)

Normal. Be kind to yourself.

It is normal. In time you will lose that belly, so SAVE THOSE CLOTHES (from before pregnancy)

ANagsHead · 12/12/2024 15:45

It’s exactly what these clothes are for, @ViaRia01 - pregnancy, postpartum, breastfeeding, any other possible reason for an expanded middle:

(I have no connection to them at all, but wish I’d known about them, or that they’d existed, thirty years ago.)

Totally normal! Do whatever is comfy and easy to wash and doesn’t need ironing.

Best thing about winter, IMO, is the ability to wear leggings and a massive cosy sweater every day (if on mat leave or, like me, 6m pregnant and either WFH or scrabbling around on the floor looking after snotty toddlers).

I know it’s not quite the same as being PP but I can’t stand buying new clothes for pregnancy when they won’t fit for long, so I have no shame in rotating the same three outfits. Especially when I don’t exactly look or feel my best. Mind you, I’d probably have got a few nicer bits in 2021 if I realised I’d be doing pregnancy three times…

I normally love fashion and so I keep myself happy by occasionally going to look at my lovely old clothes in my wardrobe or by keeping a wishlist on Pinterest. Can’t wait to return to them in time for a big reunion. It will happen - has taken three or four months post older two - and I’m sure it will do for you too!

Very normal. I wore maternity leggings pretty much throughout my maternity leave as they were so comfortable. No one really notices or cares if you're wearing maternity clothes.
