Best wide iron for thick, curly, long hair

I can't find titanium ones anywhere which is the best recommendation apparently.

Reverted to looking at wide plates GHD or Cloud nine.

Although I'm open minded the reviews online are consistently saying these are the best two for very thick curly hair.

Anyone have a view?

I use a Dyson straightener on my own hair but Dd14 is mixed ethnicity and her hair is lot thicker that mine and the dyson isn't cutting it.

I found L'Oréal Steampod to be better than GHD wide plates.

I was going to recommend the Steampod as well! I love mine. After years of being a GHD user I switched and definitely prefer it. I find it much less damaging

The steam pod reviews say first pass doesn't get it straight for thicker curly hair. You have to go over twice.

It take me 40 mins to straighten DDs hair so I was really looking for something that cuts down the time.

I have thick, wavy and longish hair and I LOVE my Cloud 9s. Definitely recommended!

I have thick, curly, long, hair. Wide plates have never been great for me. I use narrow GHDs and just section my hair.

jeaux90 · 01/08/2023 16:49

@MyrtleSmurf do you have the wide plates?

@UndercoverCop is that because you can't get close up or you think the standard width gives a better result?

I've never had a problem but use thinner sections of hair and a higher temperature. There are 3 heat settings.

Yep, my last pair (GHDs) were standard but it's a heck of a lot quicker with the wide ones.

Wide plates Cloud nine definitely. Make light work of my thick hair
