Talk to me about coloured summer shoes please.....

I am sick of wearing black and brown shoes and sandels all year round and I would love to brighten myself up a bit this year with some fun and funky footwear in other colours. What are the 'rules' for wearing coloured sandels? Should the colour of your your footwear match an item of clothing, or should you wear neutral colours and then coloured shoes - help me please as I haven't got a clue !

well... if you are wearing really bright couloured shoes then yes they must match something, but a belt or a neck scarf or a belt would do it, they just have to tie in somehow. otherwise stick to neutrals, creams etc

I'm currently looking for gold and sparkly flat sandles/flip flops and a pair of red birkenstocks/scholl type things. the gold ones should go with everything and jazz up my brown clothes, jeans, etc.

I would say that if you are wearing shoes other than brown/black then if you weear tights, then they must be flesh-coloured - black tights and white shoes are so wrong!!! Not saying that you would wear this particular combo btw.

You can generally get away with coloured sandals with summer dresses etc and jeans with no trouble.

not sure about something matching - can be a bit too mother of the bride.

I have some coral/red shoes wedge shoes that i've bought for summer. I love em. Also got some pewter ones too which are a little more glam. Would love some nice green ones too.

Thanks for this - when you get stuck in a rut it is hard to know what the 'rules' are. I love those Boden shoes btw, might have to have a look for myself....

hmmm I don't mean match in a twee way, but if you are not used to colour then i do think its a place to start, shoes can make such a difference to how an outfit looks.
