Wearing tights to summer wedding

I can remember my mum always wearing tights to summer weddings and functions. Admittedly, she did suffer badly from varicose veins.

Now I’ve got feet which are beginning to look puffy and my veins are looking more varicose-y, including on my feet. I know us middle-aged women dress a lot younger than previous generations, and don’t conform to old norms.

Would you wear tights or not? For late afternoon/evening reception. Weather will be mild, so not hot, but not chilly (despite being August!).

Thank you.

If I was going to a formal wedding perhaps with a church service, I would probably wear tights. I might also wear tights to prevent shoes rubbing . I wouldn't be influenced by the appearance of my legs particularly , who is going to be looking

Unless it was heatwave weather, if I was wearing anything other than a maxi length dress, I'd wear tights - pair of those barely/sheer ones, John Lewis do nice ones that can give you a bit of gloss/glow/colour. My legs are milk bottle white so maybe that's why I'd say yes. If you have glorious pins you may be happier to go bare legged. Personally, I find them more polished for a formal do but again, depends on the wedding vibe (I'm speaking as someone who wore fishnets then changed from heels into trainers for the evening at my own wedding).

I would / do wear sheer nude tights for this type of event. Makes me feel more put together

Yes, for the reasons already stated.

Yes.

No I wouldn't if you are concerned about veins or whatever get some fake tan or body make up if you're that worried, honestly sheer tights are pretty naff and are something I associate with older women. You aren't old, embrace your legs!

NatashaDancing · 29/07/2023 07:21

I don't know why fake tan is considered ok and a good pair of sheer tights isn't. Fake tan is horrible. I don't know what "body make up" is but it doesn't sound much better.

I guess it depends what you are wearing on your feet , I would be in sandals and despite some saying sandals and tights are fine , it not a look I could get behind . I’m with the ( good) fake tan or maxi dress brigade , but then I probably haven’t worn tights in a decade or more , oddly I wore them in my 20s but now find the idea of them very old lady . Which i completely acknowledge as bizarre as my daughter in her 20s would wear them .

I've seen so many people at lovely formal events that have seemingly gone the fake tan/body make up route and seen either those telltale over tanned knees/hands or the body make up running in sweaty rivulets. Give me naff tights any day - you can always whip them off once the photos are done and you hit the dance floor 😂
