Is this a suitable dress for a wedding guest?

Hello everyone,

Is this dress suitable to wear as a wedding guest? It has a white (or cream) background and I don't know if it's appropriate. Also, is it too casual? It's more fitted on me than it is on the model. Also it's longer because I'm a short arse.

If it's okay, what shoes and accessories would you go for?

Thanks in advance ☺️

It’s lovely.
If its more fitted across your bosom take care to wear a good supporting bra.

Dress it up with lots of bling & pretty sandals/shoes. Toning clutch bag.

Unless yr legs are tanned enough, wear tights or hold ups? They always add a certain dressy finish to an outfit.

Would you wear a “fascinator” or a flower in your hair?

Have fun.

TeeBee · 26/07/2023 10:15

I think it's lovely.

Thanksamil · 26/07/2023 10:59

Thanks both

I was worried it was a bit frumpy for a wedding, I usually wear more fitted dresses at weddings but have put on some baby weight so this is really comfy and surprisingly flattering around the bust / waist area.

Always a good supportive bra...I have 34JJ bust so it's a must!

No idea what sandals to wear, haven't worn heels since I got married 5 years ago...

Won't need tights but will definitely be wearing my chub rub shorts!

Open to some sort of head wear...any suggestions??

In fact any suggestions on any accessories would be greatly appreciated
X

Anyone else? I need help styling this dress!

I mean, it's nice? It doesn't need any specific styling. Cream or gold sandals and gold jewellery and you're sorted. Absolute no to tights, especially if you're getting your toes out. I don't do hats or fascinators anyway but I don't think it would suit the vibes of this dress. It's casual, but not too casual.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 26/07/2023 13:12

It’s gorgeous OP. Where’s it from?
keep styling minimal otherwise you will detract from the dress. Maybe gold/cream?

This dress is the subject of another current thread!

I don't think it's fancy enough for a wedding. It's a bbq/beer garden dress to me but it's inoffensive.

greenteaandmarshmallows · 26/07/2023 13:38

I've tried that dress and returned it. It looks more frumpy on me in real life and isn't wedding guest suitable. It also reminds me of my nans curtains.

greenteaandmarshmallows · 26/07/2023 13:39

It's from Anthropologie

MistyMorningMelons · 26/07/2023 13:53

I think it's too casual (and I am not a dressy person).

Catspyjamas17 · 26/07/2023 16:10

It's lovely, I'd wear it with sandals like this, https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/footwear/shoes/occasion-shoes/white-cross-over-platform-block-heel-sandals/p/852644710

And maybe a flower brooch and sparkly hair clip.

It’s lovely. I’d wear it with tan sandals with a wedge if you’re not used to heels. I’ve seen wedding outfits much less dressy than that.

Thanksamil · 26/07/2023 21:57

I was worried about it being too casual and frumpy...

Think we need to see it on you OP. Looks fine on the model but I can see how if you were shorter it might not flatter as much.

FadedRed · 26/07/2023 22:00

Looks lovely. Perfect for a wedding.

RampantIvy · 26/07/2023 22:03

I'm surprised at the comments about it not being dressy enough for a wedding. Those posters must go to some very formal weddings.

I think it looks lovely, and wouldn't have looked too casual at the family wedding I went to earlier this year.

greenteaandmarshmallows · 26/07/2023 22:08

Depends- someone else has it in their thread and it looks lovely on them. On me it looked terrible the fabric was creased and the band that sat right under my bust made it look incredibly frumpy.

Wonder if you can link the thread??

To note...the bride wore jeans to my wedding so I don't think she will mind if I'm casual 😂

I wouldn't wear anything that smart to a barbecue or the pub, and I'm not scruffy.

Thanksamil · 26/07/2023 22:11

The dress fits me really well, cups my bust perfectly and cinches me in at the waist. Doesn't look frumpy. I just wondered if the overall look was sort of mumsy

Nothing wrong with mumsy.

If it fits you go for it

AreolaGrande · 26/07/2023 23:02

It's a cotton summer dress in a pretty non-descript (and yes, in my opinion, mumsy or old-fashioned, however you want to phrase it) fabric. Added to that the smocked waist and the tiered skirt and it ends up on the too casual end of the spectrum for me. It looks equally like it could be from Tu at Sainsburys if I didn't know it was from Anthropologie. And that's not saying there's anything wrong with supermarket clothes, lord knows I have plenty of them, but not for a wedding.

There's another thread where someone has treated themselves to a £££ dress (brand was BASH or something similar?) for a wedding and it just looks worth the investment. Gorgeous shape and fabric and eye-catchingly different to lots of other dresses currently around.

Just my tuppence worth. If you love it and feel good in it OP then go for it but the fact that you are concerned it might be frumpy doesn't make sound like you're head over heels for it?

Gingerboy22 · 26/07/2023 23:31

It looks quite autumnal and because of that I'm not keen.
