Sunglasses for teenage boy

My 18 year old son is about to go travelling to Africa. He has zero interest in shopping or fashion so I can't take him to the shops or ask him to choose anything. What are good sunglasses that will help with very bright sun? He has blue eyes and is sensitive to bright sunlight so I want to get sunglasses with good quality lenses. Will polarised lenses be better for bright light?

If you don't mind paying a bit more I'd look at Arnette or Oakley too.

Just don't buy random sunglasses off Amazon or the like. I wouldn't trust their stated UV protection
